Broke the handle on my StrikeMaster auger...

Question

Yesterday, went out to the fish house and had to re-drill the holes. Pulled the auger out of my truck and noticed the handle was broke, right by the base. I assume it had been hit by my propane tanks. I was still able to drill the holes, but I had to be careful.

After I got setup, I decided to call StrikeMaster to see what I got to do to get it fixed. She asked where I lived and what type of auger I had. She then said "I'll have a new handle in the mail on Monday". I asked "No charge?!?" She replied "Yes"

Hard to beat customer service like that - every time I hear about free repairs, I'm amazed that companies like Strikemaster still exist. I hope they continue to do good business. Thank you Strikemaster! LB

Good to know, as I did the exact same thing to my brand new Strikemaster on Thursday, broken at the base too.

I told this story on here before I think, but will tell it again. My Strikelite was supposed to have allen wrench storage under the throttle control, but mine didn't. I called them one day at around 2 pm or so, and had a new throttle control the next day around noon- less than 24 hours later.

That's great to know, that Strikemaster will do things like that for their customers.

I bought mine this year and have run almost one tank through it so far. I can't help but think it would run a little better if mixed leaner than 24:1, but I'll make that adjustment after one more tank of fuel.

Overall, it works and cuts great.

The other day the plastic part on the handle were the throttle is broke on my auger.

Guess will try calling them to see what they'll do. Of course it's way past the warranty period and plan to buy the part.

Probably would'nt be too bad carrying his around seeing the handles are still on there and not busted off like them there fancy liteweight plastic handles seem to often enough!

I'll take the few extra pounds of old school heavyduty for the reliability and all round toughness that the 2hp Jiffy Stealth provides for myself these days. Lasts and lasts and just keeps cutting without all the plastic this and thats breaking when you least expect it when a guy is out there fishing.

I'll add another positive Strikemaster CS story. My brother's recoil broke on his 2 yr. old Lazer. After a trip to Big Lake, they sent him on his way with a free replacement part in hand and a customer for life. If/when my MagIII ever dies, I know what brand I'll be replacing it with.

Hey Rainman....does Jiffy even have/need a service dept.? I think that guy that used to be the "Maytag" repairman on TV could also be "the Jiffy repairman". ya think? I have had my Jiffy since 1982....have had to replace the sparkplug and re-sharpen the blade a few times in all those years. The MOST maintenance for me has been to fill the gas tank!!!!!....BUT NEVER had to replace the handle!!!

You guys with the broken handles should take look at a separate posting today where some unlucky soul had his egine on his Strikemaster go to pieces...literally!!!! but maybe you could re-use his handle!!!

I think some of youse just need to learn to take better care of your equipment. I've had the plastic handles since the first year they came out. No problem with them breaking 'cause I treat it just like any other big ticket item, with care. Stuff like making sure it's secured while in transit or laying it down on the ice easily after punching holes. Sure, some funky things can happen that'll lead to broken equipment, but most of the time it's nothing more than operator error.

    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.

    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
