Stolen Auger

To the [PoorWordUsage] who stole the Mag 2000 auger from the back of my pickup last night at the rest stop south of Brainerd on 371:

I hope the recoil rope breaks the first time you pull it, I hope you hit a rock in the ice and break the blade the first hole you cut with it and most of all I hope you've filled it with the gas from the can you took at the same time. That would be the unmixed gas for the generator, the mixed gas for the auger was in the 1 gal. can you left behind!

Welcome to the long list of auger theft victims. I've been there twice. one I drilled 5 holes with the other about 5000! T%he first guy got the better heist. I'd report it to the authorities, but it's not worth reporting to most insurances. I find more and more a cover on the pickup box is well worth the investment. If it's out of sight, most likely won't be stolen. Nothing is sacred to a theif.

I do have a tuneau cover but can't close it with my portable in the bed. I did report to the state patrol as instructed by the maitainance guy there.

No one said anything about video survalance.

Both the maintaince guy and the trooper told me that the portable would be like a flag to the thief. He see's that and knows there will be an auger, tackle, fuel or heaters that may be loose and easy to grab.

Back in 95, I had bought my first Power Auger. I remember buying at the Holiday plus that ws in Fridley(later turned into a Gander Mountain) It was a jiffy, and i assembled it when I got home.

next day as i was heading to the lake I stopped at Mikes Bait on Hwy 8. I remember grabbing my monnow bucket out of the box of the truck turning around and walking into the store. Two kids had just walked out when I went in.

The guy in the shop asked what i needed and i said Crappie minnows please. I paid for my purhase and walked back out.

It was at that moment when i started to get a feeling something was wrong. It was like my Brain took inventory of the back of my truck and knew something was missing.

Yep it was my auger, I never even put gas into it. i never even pulled on the Rope. I was so mad. I mean i was really [PoorWordUsage]. I was pretty Vocal about it as well.

I went back in the Bait shop and asked the guy if he knew who those kids where, and explained what happened. He didn't, we called the police i filled a report( like it did any good )my Insurance was like a 500.00 deduct so it was not covered.

So anyways, the guy in Mikes bait. probably was mike himself back then felt pretty bad that it happened, and gave me a really super good deal on a new Auger he was Selling.

It was an Eskimo Sportsman. That auger is still running like it did the day i got it. I even scince that time ordered a 10" auger for it. I now have a 8" and 10" cutting augers for that power head. although i never use the 8" any more

So I know how you feel. I am sorry it happened to you.

Had the same thing happen to me at a cafe after fishing all day. Came out to find my magII gone. that I got right from Randy Havel of Strike Master 15 years ago. lucky for me he's a good neighbor only about 1.5 miles as the crow flys and he hooked me up again. You'll never meet a more humble, affable man. If you need to get a replacement quick let me know on this thread I'll put you in touch.

Some people either have a lot of guts, a lack of brains or both I guess.

Think about it though. If you pulled into the parking lot at a gas station, restaurant or whatever and you saw someone taking an auger out of the back of a pickup and not acting suspiciously about it, you'd think nothing of it, never knowing you were actually witnessing a theft.

I have a combination padlock with a coated steel cable on it and I've thought of locking my auger up when in the open bed of my truck but I haven't done it yet. I do get nervous when I stop at Gander or the gas station on the way home from fishing when the auger is in there, or anytime the truck is out of my sight. Someday I may be sorry I didn't lock it up.

Well after that i put a topper on my truck. i was able to keep it someone safe that way.

But I have purchased another truck scinse then. i don't have the topper.

So yeah I get very very nervous about stopping anywhere. i either travel with someone and always make sure someone is with the truck. Even if we have to take turns going into the store.

tough break. Hey thats too bad but dont give up. I finally got a bow back that was stolen from me two years ago and the losers that stole are in the clink right now. (In the meantime it gave me a good excuse to the wife to buy the brand new one I was eyeing up last fall).

good luck man. you never know what could happen

Its too bad that the best thing that a guy can do to the thieves is wish bad things upon them. The coppers have better things to do than track down auger thieves, so these particular thieves won't get caught for this crime. I guess we have to take comfort that the bad karma that was wished upon them will take root.

LOCK IT UP!!!!

I've been saying this since I moved here from IL, where you'd never leave anything unattended if you value it.

You can't trust anyone!

If you can't lock it, think ahead about your situation and where you are stopping. It's going to happen when you least expect it.

I never go into any store without having stuff locked up.

It's just to easy for a quick grab. Some think I'm over cautious, but I still have my equipment.

It only takes one time at a resort with the cover on the boat and you'll know what I'm talking about. It's easier to deal with the epuipment at the time versus having to replace it!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
