Ice Auger question

Recommended Posts

Most auger shaft length are around 42" give or take a couple of inches although Nils does have a 48" model. A lot of factors go into whether you'll need an extention or not. One being how much snow/slush is on top of the ice. You can work around this if you shovel but that's a pain. Another is whether you're drilling in a fishhouse and floor clearance on top of the ice thickness needs to be considered. When it starts getting close it's better to have one and not need it than not have one and then need one. You'll catch a lot more fish when the hole goes all the way through the ice. ;\)

Good Luck!

If you have a Stikemaster, they have 10" extensions.

You better hope the fish are there. How long would you have to stand there and skim ice?

I've been down to the power head before, but I don't even own an extension. If I fished further north I think I'd have one with me at all times.

Yep, I use to fish with a couple of old timers, years ago, that had the old spoon blade augers. What a sight that was to see them use those in late season. My old trusty Mora hand auger wasn't much better either, back then.

How about being as old as to remember chisels only. No spuds. You did not move around much later in the season no graphs bad clothes

cold boots and metal minnow buckets, no shelters no heaters and using the family sled. Boy were they the days.>>>>later the load
