thats why we have to stop at the marine dealer so often. to keep your fishing partners happy, mine got a minn-kota anchor mate.

Never heard of a Minn-Kota anchormate, may have to google it to see what it is. Sheesh just looked it up, electric winch of all things. Mine is just a "you crank by hand model", but it is far better than pulling it up by hand. I got's enough aches and pains.

Hi! My name is Patti. I'm 45 and live in Hopkins, MN (twin cities west metro). I LOVE to fish but haven't gotten to do as much as I've wanted to. I grew up in the air force so until I was 12 we only got to fish when we came back on leave to visit grandma and grandpa. My dad started learning then (he was 42) and he's been my only fishing buddy. My ex was into hunting..he'd fish with his dad but that was pretty much "no females allowed". I'm the closest my dad got to a boy(no sons). I've been instigating our annual "daddy and me" trip to the Northwest SportsShow for about 10 yrs. I've always had to depend on him (or someone else) to go fishing. And of course, dad's aren't always very accepting of trying new things. But now that I have my own boat I'm ready to go. Except for the part about learning how to handle it...lol. If anyone wants to lend a hand in that learning process, let me know. Its actually a family heirloom..the first boat I fished in as a little girl on those trips back to MN. '60 crestliner and '63 johnson...both still in pretty good shape. Ice fishing...now thats something I want to try. My dad nor the ex did it so I've never been. Hoping there will be some FM events where I can try. Actually, looking forward to any events where I can learn...so keep me posted.

Thanks FM for being here.

Patti

Hi Patti! FM events are great places to learn. People are really open with their techniques and spots. You are absolutely welcome to join us in August for the Women's get together but we still have some things details to hammer out. Welcome to FM. It's great to have you here! grin

Welcome Patti!!

If you can make it to the next Womens GTG, we would be happy to help you learn how to maneuver the boat. Actually, I am pretty new at it myself. The first GTG we had was only my 2nd time running the boat all by myself. How long is your boat, how big is the motor?

From what I hear, there will probably be an Womens Ice Fishing GTG this winter too. I am really looking forward to that too!!

She ran the boat like a pro. We laughed so hard the other boats were following us around wondering what we were smoking. We had a great time Patti, and there are some wonderful women that will help you along the way. I had to admit that I hated leaches, and before the boat was anchored I grabbed the son of a gun and hooked him.....now they are nothing more than bait (at least no one will know my ongoing anxiety with the buggers).

Girls, (or anyone) if you really hate to handle leaches, bring a small bucket of sand and drop them in before you try to hook them. They will be much easier to handle and won't seem quite as "ickey".

DeeDee...Running with scissors? Not a very good example for the kids!
