Lisa, is there any way you could put up some sort of index so we could look up individuals who have posted here? That would be kinda nice huh?

My name is Char, and I currently live in Andover, MN. I was born, raised and have always lived in Minnesnowta. Just had a birthday last Friday - feeling the age.

I am married (husband #2), and have a 19 yo daughter, and a 16yo son. And an almost 2 yo Bichon named Duke. I garden a little. I have one rose, and a ton of iris' that are almost ready to pop!!

I like to fish, camp and hunt - especially when it involves quality time with my brother.

I'm an accountant by day, and an outdoorswoman by night (and weekend).

Hi Karen....welcome. This is rather new to me too, but It's been fun. I have 2 boys too 15 and 17..one graduating this year. It's a great time of life, full of change and excitement. Maybe as we gather in June we can set a fall date to do it again. I'm always up to fish, anywhere, anytime. i say that pretty loosly, but, it's always what I'd rather be doing.

oh yes....Char...welcome and I look forward to meeting you in June. We all seem to have kids the same age. I guess at this stage in the game we're reclaiming some of our dreams. Fish on!

Hello!

I am Lisa and I live in the northern metro (Lino Lakes) to be exact. I have decided to teach myself and my children (7 and 9) to fish this summer.

It is a little like the blind leading the naked, but I hope that we will have some fun and learn a new hobby.

We are avid campers and love the outdoors, but just have not been much for fishing. My husband and I used to fish before we had children, but we were not very good at it and did not have much luck. We sold our boat years ago, but I still have the tackle boxes and fishing rods.

My plan is to fish along the shorelines to get started and I am hoping that some of you out here can give me some starting tips. I am hoping to make this my summer project with my kids over summer vacation. We will be fishing during the day during the week. (I work nights). I am hoping to share my learning experiences here.

Hi Lisa - what you are doing is awesome. Time together with the kids, outside - pricless - grin

Welcome to FM and the Womens forum.

There are some great spots to shore and pier fish from up your way. Bunker Hills Park, Coon Rapids [PoorWordUsage] and others I can't think of right now.

But theres enough to keep you and the kids busy for the summer.

google minnesota county parks

Hi Lisa,

On the DNR HSOforum there are lakes listed that are stocked to encourage fishing with Kids. One that I have had fun on is in Champlin it is called Mill Pond. Check out the shore fishing and metro lakes forums they tend to have some great info.

WOW. Thanks for all the replies! I will check out the resources that you all suggested. I will be getting my fishing licence this week and some new line for my rod. I have to work all weekend, but will take the kids on our first go next week.

I have the kids practicing casting off our deck into the grass. My 7 year old seems to be a natural at casting! They are getting excited to go and try it for real.

One other thing Lisa. Since you are married, get a spouse license. A single is $18 where a couple is just over $20. That way if your hubby wants to tag along from time to time you don't have to go get another license.

Lisa, If you would like to see what a Fjord looks like, search the NFHR (Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry) online. They are a beautiful specimen and have a two-toned mane that grows naturally. Most people who show their Fjordy's trim the mane so it stands up and the black center is a little taller than the white outside...I am mostly Norwegian so when I was introduced to the breed I fell in love with them. I think you will also.

If you want to send me your email, I can send you some pictures (I don't know how to post here )

If someone can help me post them, I would love for everyone to see the Fjord pictures!

Janinne If you go to the Photography forum at the top there is a tutorial on how to post pictures and if that gives you any grief let us know and we will help. It seems like a pain the first time and then you will wonder why it was such a big deal when it is pretty basic once you set up a account with a picture hosting site like Photobucket.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
