Last fall you talked about putting some fishing gear together for kids? Anything new on that we should know about?

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I know I've lost some brain cells over the years but...seems to me one of you ladies up north was going to set up a fishing program for kids with cancer, or families of kids with cancer...or something like that. Anyone remember?

Hello everyone, I am Brian DeZurik, I am 30 years old. I have been married to my wonderful wife Amanda for almost five years, we have 2 fantastic children, Abigail 4, Isaac 22 months, and one deceased son Dominic. We live near the town of Randall. My wife and I both work for the Larson/Glastron/Seaswirl boat companies in Little Falls. I am a quality assurance auditor/lab tech. I have been fishing since I was very young, thanks to my mother, I now can not stop. Been hunting since about 10 years old, began bow hunting (prefered weapon)when I was 20. Went to college for natural resources in Ely and finished in Brainerd. Love to explore new area's of our great state, fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. Hope to meet many you at future GTG's to share knowledge and make new friends from around the state (and elsewhere).

Brian

Hello, my name is Rollie, and Im a fishaholic.

Wow, a bio, huh?

Well, its a long story, buckle up.

Grew up in southwest Minnesota in a little known town called Hatfield. Most notably known for its large ballroom, the Hollyhock.

Born in 1958 (yea, that makes me 50) Second oldest of 6 kids, with 2 other brothers and 3 sisters.

My parents died, when I was 15, but had instilled in me a love for the outdoors, both fishing, hunting and the shooting sports, which I tried to put into my daughter.

Went to work for my uncle in Iowa (Okoboji area) during the summers of 74 and 75, Graduated in 76, and moved to Iowa permanently.

Married my high school sweetheart/lover in Feb of 77 and still as much in love today as we were back then. Met her at the Hollyhock, by the way.

We have one daughter, who will be 21 this September, and is a senior at South Dakota State, in Brookings. She has been absolutley the greatest child to ever be around. We are so blessed and proud. She has a great boyfriend, who is from Luverne, and is the goalie for the SDSU Jackrabbits.

My fishing consists of a real odd schedule. I have a cabin at Chamberlain South Dakota. (everybody here, has an Okoboji Getaway) so do I, it just happens to be in Chamberlain). I fish hard, from Christmas till now. I have over 200 hours on my outboard in that time frame for 08 already, and will probably winterize it now, that I brought it home Tuesday.

Heres the view from the patio:

If the weather is too bad to fish, then we hunt

Our summer schedule, revolves around dirt track racing.... Sprint car racing, to be exact.

Picture%20002.jpg

We go, 3 nights a week, if possible. Rock Rapids Iowa on Fridays, Jackson Mn on Sat, and Husets Speedway in Sioux Falls on Sunday nights. Throw in an occasional trip to Lincoln Neb, Knoxville Ia, or Cedar Lake Wisc, and that schedule doesnt leave much time to concentrate on fishing, so I dont. I usually have the fishing bug out of my system by that time, so I really dont miss it.

We are huge fans of high school wrestling, and follow our local team religiously, to every meet, and all the tournaments.

My hunting consists mainly of deer and pheasants. Ive recently started hunting some private land in South Dakota, both for deer and pheasants, and its hard to even dedicate much time around here anymore. We have an 11 yr old Black Lab named Buddy

and an adopted 4 year old GSP we call Ellie, most of the time.

I do love bowhunting whitetails in the corn late fall:

Our daughter wil be interning at Sioux Falls McKennan Hospital in the emergency ward this summer, and upon graduation, hopes to stay in the Sioux Falls area. We hope to retire on the I90 corridor, somewhere within 50 miles of SF. Wife has 4 more years left till she can go. I can go anytime.

Oh, yea, what I do.

I worked in residential construction full time for 27 years,(same company) specializing in energy efficient, air tight construction. I started out pushing a broom, in 1974, and worked my way from the bottom to the top, where I could push the broom again, but it paid quite a bit better on the top side of the ladder. My claim to fame on the job, was that I never asked anyone to do anything that I hadnt done before.

I quit my previous employer in 2002, and started up my own business, a kitchen and bath store. We parted on great terms, and I also rent space from my previous employer. In my rental agreement, I get receptionist and bookeeping duties lumped together with my rent. I have no employees, other than me and want to keep it that way. When the work is done, I head to South Dakota to hunt or fish.

Throughout our 31 years of marriage, we have lived in 5 new homes that we built and sold. Last year, we bought a ten acre acreage, with a 1928 Sears kit home on it.

IMG_6345.JPG

It also has a tremendous 1934 clay tile barn, that I have some pipe dreams of restoring someday.

IMG_6350.JPG

The house has great bones, but needs some work. Who better to do it, than me? I just dont know if this old construction worker has it in him to get the job done. We are in the process of building a 45 X 66 X 14 storage shed for the boat and camper, as I type this. Concrete will be going in next week. With all the outbuildings on this acreage, there was not one building that I could even get my boat into (2000 Crestliner 1750 TS, w Yamaha F115) so the storage shed was needed first.

I have way too many pictures to even begin to post, but will put a few up. I cant post a link to my albums, but you can find the from the address in the pictures properties.

To be honest, I havent read all 54 pages, but I have read a bunch of them. I decided to post, while I was still thinking about it. (awake)

Great post Lisa.

Great post back at you Rollie. I believe you probably have one of the fullest lives I've EVER read! I'm so happy for you. My sisters used to live in Rapid City and we'd visit them several times a year so I know what Chamberlain looks like and I'm pretty jealous that's where you get to vacation! Thank you very much for sharing you're bio with FM. I truly enjoyed reading it. smile

Hi, I'm Janinne and I have never posted here before, tho I lurk here often. I currently live in Detroit Lakes, MN, born in St. Paul spending weekends in Bemidji. Still have a place in Bemidji, that is where my boat lives! I am 46, never married (still looking for the right one), love to hunt, fish and play with Norwegian Fjord horses! My father and I spent many weeks and weekends fishing and hunting and I constantly tell him it is all his fault that I love the outdoors the way I do. I am a retail store manager so I have an odd schedule sometimes, but I would rather fish on a weekday than a weekend and have the lake to myself! It seems I seek out difficult targets as I love to fish for Musky and Walleye and they don't cooperate with that very often. Largest fish....40" mushy and 24" walleye. Love dogs and cats and birds, have 3 parrots,

show the Fjords at horse shows and expo's...pet peeves.....when educated outdoorsmen call deer antlers "horns".

don't they know bone is solid and horns are hollow? lol smile

Hello all! I see a bunch of other guys posting bios on here, so I figured to help kill my boredom I would do the same.

My name is Nathan Lee, I am 26 years old and I am from Austin in Southeastern Minnesota. I am single, never married, and no kids.

I have served in the Minnesota National Guard for almost eight years now. I have served two tours in Iraq, done a month on the US/Mexico border, and I am currently on the home stretch of peacekeeping deployment to Kosovo (less than a month and a half left).

I am have been a FM'er for less than a year and I only recently get into fishing in 2006 after getting back from Iraq. I needed something to help relax me and take some of the pressure off, so my brother turned me onto trout fishing. After hitting the trout streams a couple times a week, I began getting more into walleye and pike fishing. I have to say that I am hooked and I love being out fishing. I have also wanted to get into bass fishing more and I would love to try my hand at fishing all species at least once. I have three brothers and a father who is all big fishermen, but I turned out to be the avid hunter of the family. All of my three brothers learned to fish from my grandfather by taking constant fishing trips up north, mostly to Lake of the Woods, but he died before I ever had a chance to get into it.

I love spending my time outdoors and when I get back you will find me doing as much fishing as I can before my three months of paid leave runs out. I plan on fishing the Mississippi River for the first time and I would love to try some of the Metro Lakes as well and try to make it to some of the northern lakes should I be able to find people to go around with. I am a very avid shooter and spend several hours a week at the shooting range keeping my skills sharp. I love nothing more than being out at the lake, camping, hiking, and hunting. You will also find me out mountain biking many of the trails in Bluff Country in Southern MN around Lanesboro.

I could go more in-depth, but I would prefer not writing my autobiography at this particular time. I look forward to continue talking with all of you.

Welcome Janinne and Nathan!

Janinne, I've never heard of Norwegian Fjord horses! What a neat thing to do. Don't be a lurker-join in the fun whenever you can get a word in edgewise! blushgrin

Nathan, thank you for all you do for our country. Stay safe and know you have the love and support for your people here at home! There's actually quite a few guys who hang out here in the women's forum. We have a lot of fun here. grin
