Nothing but Quatum Hot Sauce.. Oil only.. Clean out all that nasty grease and give the moving parts a little shot of this stuff... Works great and a little bit goes a long way.

I use Rocket Fuel Yellow Label oil, works great in the winter and summer.

I use the generic blue lube on tip ups. Keeps things going for me.

But when I started musky fishing a couple years ago I became a hot sauce fan. I have it on my christmas list for this year again. Great stocking stuffer for anybody with a spouse that hucks a lot of baits. Haven't had too much trouble with it on my ice reels, it is super low viscosity which I think actually helps it more than hurts it in the winter. But I'm no motorhead. Worked for me is all I can say.

You can buy hot sauce in stores. I know Cabelas in Owatonna carries it.

Gander carries it. There's hot sauce oil and grease, i mostly use the oil.

grease is better for your moving parts like gears, spindles, etc. Just be careful not to over grease it. The oil is better for keeping parts like your handle, bail bearing, etc. lubed.

When I was in Thorne last week, Pat Smith told me that the Quantum Hot Sauce is not recommended for Shimano reels. He said the make-up of the hot sauce will deteriorate the nylon parts in the shimano reels. Can anyone verify this? I would hate to use it and kill a couple of my reels.

I've been using the Frabill tip-up grease for my ice fishing reels as it remains slippery in sub zero temps.
