setterguy
I purchased a new boat, and it is from WI. I just ordered my new lettering and am wondering if anyone has a trick on how to get the old ones off without peeling off paint or the like. The previous owner put those real thick, square white jobs with the black letting on so I may have a task on my hands.
marine_man
A hair dryer, sharp razor blade (be carefull!) and maybe a little goo gone when you're done.. that's about as good as it gets...Good Luck!marine_man
Ralph Wiggum
WD40 should take the goo off, too.
Valv
Use a heat gun and warm up the decals very well, and they'll peel off immediatelyA hair dryer will work too, just takes longer
VMS
Agreed. No need for a razor blade at all. with the heat, decals like that come off very easy. pull at a 90 degree angle to the surface as you are heating it. fingers might get a bit hot as you do it...Steve
Northlander
Heat and a plastic razorblade. Dont use a real razorblade or you will have a bunch of cuts/scratches all over the place. Then a little Goo Gone works. I like the Goo Gone Towelettes they seel at Menards etc.
iffwalleyes
if you you the razor blade carefully you will be just fine. Just use it to lift the corner of the decal and then pull it off.
loadmaster
I know this is a little late but just saw the Subject. Best way to do this with out any damage to the boat is to take to an auto body shop and have them remove it with a gum wheel ( a rubber brush), they use it to remove old decals before painting on cars. Takes about 3 Min to remove all numbers and letters from both sides. Hope this helps>>>later the load
rodmaker
That works very well. Just use a blow drier. Razors are not necessary. I have done that on boats as well as removing decals on my truck. After removing them,. use goo gone, and then rubbing alchol before applying the new decals
Grant
Power washer at extremely close range has worked for me.
PerchJerker
A blow dryer is the simplest and safest way to go, no chance of damaging, scratching, or scuffing anything else on your boat with a blow dryer. It's quick and easy too.
