Love the woods....

You know that feeling you get when you get to camp or arrive at the woods to look around. I had a chance this weekend to check some stands at our rifle camp, do a little scouting and ride the wheeler a bit. It is tough to match that moment when all is still, not a sound to be heard and you are just soaking in all the woods has to offer. God I need Deer Camp bad!!! Only 10 days til I leave...... I love the woods!

Love the woods to, but to wait until firearms season to get in them is too much for me. I'm in them at least some 12 months out of the year. I have a small woods & burn wood, partly for cost savings, but a lot because it's another reason to be in them. They're the greatest. Bowhunting is SO addicting though.

I also cannot wait until gun season to get out there. Bowhunting really helps me get out the itch.

You mean if I don't take steps now, I could be in big trouble? I borrowed a bow last weekend and shot a deer, now I went and bought a bow of my own. Egads, where does it stop! Is there a support group some place? If there is one, it will have to wait until next week because I'm going hunting tomorrow........

No, but based on what I'm reading, and my own personal experience, there really needs to be a support group for hunters who have shot, and lost, a nice deer... especially those of us who thought we put a nice hit on it, but still couldn't find it. Hurts for a long time. I can not imagine what it must be like for a parent who loses a child, and never knows what happened. Just losing a buck and not knowing drove me nuts for a year.

If there were a support group for bowdiction no one on this site would be interested in going to it. In fact they'd be in denial of the problem. Heck that probably means there actually is one. If I hear of one I'll let you know so you can avoid it...

Bow hunting sounds like fun, but addicting? Apparently you are not duck hunters, now that is addicting.

As far as loving the woods, I try to make it on the lake or woods every weekend. I have a hard time going without it.

I used to be both. I made a few trips to ND duck hunting & had some decent shoots. As fun as that goes, every time before I'd go I'd be just dying over the fact I couldn't bowhunt that weekend. I usually duck hunt 2-3 mornings a year these days, otherwise bowhunting. Shooting a deer or having one close vs. a limit of ducks, no comparison. The limit vs. seeing no deer are pretty close, with the ducks getting the nod. The biggest rush in hunting to me is the sound of that arrow hitting the deer when you know it's good, no matter what size or gender they are.

right on with the arrow impact CRACK. duck hunting, HA! The flush and cackle of a rooster leaving the grass or cattails, by far a much bigger rush, but not like the snap of a twig when even a fawn comes out.

The flush and cackle of a rooster gets my heart pumping just as much as the twig snapping of a deer walking up on you. What really gets my blood boiling though is the explosion of a grouse flushing in the deep woods and trying to regain yourself enough to try, key word try, to get a shot at it. Although, the deer, be it buck or doe, stopping at 30 yards broadside when the smokepole is in my hands takes the cake.
