JRFISHBAIT
I just received a newsletter from the MN DNR. Minnesota is one of 9 states testing a pilot program where license agents will be able to sell the Federal Duck Stamp just like any other license (small game, state duck stamp, fishing, etc.) So you no longer have to visit the post office to obtain the Federal Stamp. Pick it up with all your other licenses at your local sporting goods place. The program starts Sept. 5. Note: You will not receive the physical stamp at the time of purchase, it will be mailed to you, but you will receive a blue license square that will be good for 45 days. It will work the same as the pheasant and state duck stamp program where they mail it to you.Good luck hunting.
harvey lee
This is great news as one always had to run to another place to purchase a stamp. Sometimes the state does listen and gets it right. Thanks for the information Joe.
96trigger
Its a great idea, unfortunately there wasn't a lot of forethought that went into it. The small town places where I used to buy the federal stamps no longer carry them, not a big deal until until you look at the fine print. The Sale of the federal stamp doesn't go on sale electronically until Sept first. Early goose season opens Sept 1st, not too many ELS stations open at 5:00 AM. Anyway, its the right step, will be much better next year. Had to call around and drive 30 miles to actually find a place that had the stamps. BobT
I've been hunting the early season for quite a few years and have always got mine at Fleet Farm when I picked up my other waterfowl stamps and licenses. The difference is that the state waterfowl stamp is sold by the agents but you have to wait for the actual stamp to arrive. In the mean time you have a paper receipt/permit that allows you to hunt. With Federal stamps they are required to issue the actual stamp. The feds require the agents to purchase the stamps up front and what they don't sell they eat. That's why so many agents don't carry them. Bob

Ufatz
Ah yes, another dumbass idea from our Federal friends. Why in the world WOULD a little shop owner want to lay out cash to buy a stamp he might not sell, especially in view of the fact that hunter numbers are going down every year? I hope that information is incorrect, or will be changed. It simply is not fair to retailers. They should be able to get them, account for them, and pay for those they sell. The rest should be returned to the Feds for full credit. But of course that is just my clear and logical thinking going on, not that of a TEAM of bureaucrats. Ha! SDbowhunter
I hunt in both south dakota and minnesota. If my assuption is correct i only need to buy one federal stamp and attach to one of my licences. First of is my assumption correct? And, I highly doubt SD would honor that blue licence as a federal duck stamp. I have already bought my Fed. Stamp anyhow.
bear204
Bought my stamps this past monday at gander and was handed my federal stamp and was asked if i wanted the state stamp sent to me for an adittional $2.
Rost
You are correct SDbowhunter. You only need 1 stamp. Just attach it to either one of the licenses and you are good to go.
JRFISHBAIT
To clarify on some of the comments. The ability to get your Federal Duck stamp through the electronic license system won't be active until Sept. 5 (Yes, I agree that doesn't make a lot of sense since the season opens Sept. 1). If you have picked up a physical Federal Stamp from any licensing agent, it is because they purchased the stamps from the Post Office and are reselling them. We have to purchase the Federal Stamps just like anyone else and they are not returnable. The beauty of this new system is that you can purchase your stamp at any time. Our store has been open at 5:00 AM on Sat and Sun all summer long. We have just changed our hours to 6:00 AM for Sat and Sun. Anytime we are open, starting Sept. 5, you can purchase your hunting licences and all required stamps 7 days a week.
Tippman
I guess. I went to two different places looking for that Federal duck stamp today and wasn't able to get it from either. Now why the heck would they wait until after early goose to start selling them.
