Windy City Walleye Hunter
OK,I guess it's my turn with my .02Lots of the same stuff, Banquet Pot Pies, Mac and Cheese, any cheap can of chili, grilled cheese sami's, Olympia Beer and Strohs "Pounders" (16 oz long necks) I also remember Dinty Moore Beef Stew and something else in a can called Sweet Sue Chicken and Dumplings, yum! We used to shop at Aldi and you could get about a week's worth of cheap food for $10 but that was back in the "stone" age (and we were, about half the time, LOL). Late 70's and early 80's. Ahhh, those were the days my friend......Windy

hanson
Quote:And of course, lots of Mich Light. What kind of college kid pays that kind of money for beer???If the beer cost over $10 a case, you weren't buying it. If booze came in a glass bottle, it was too expensive. When we stepped up to Windsor Canadian 1.75, we were living great!! Captain Morgan, forget about it!!Oh, we were talking about food... Dinty Moore Beef Stew, Campbell's soups, Mac & Cheese, Frozen Pizzas, Pot Pies, frozen burritos, Hamburger Helpers, Happy Hour at the bar (free appetizers).Another bang for the buck food is any kind of hotdish, my favorite is Tater Tot. 1 lb hamburger, 1 bag frozen tater tots, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can cream of chicken soup, 1/2 cup water and bingo, food for 4 days straight costing less than 10 bucks. blue_healer_guy
A St. Cloud State alum here, all of the above but we went to the ground round 5 days a week for 5$ pitchers and all the wings you could eat. Popcorn free also. AAAAAHHHHH, those were the days!

hanson
The Ground Round... Gall dang I loved the Ground Round in Fargo. Wednesday night was Tea Night. 32oz colossal teas for $2.25 I believe. Slide on over to Borrowed Bucks after that for 50 cent taps and you were good to go. Oh... we were talking food. Ground Round had free wing appetizers and Bucks had free Papa John's pizza on Wednesday. Tough decision.

It sounds like you got some good deals, but still, it adds up.Mich light was my beer of choice, but I couldn't always afford it. Lots of Keystone light, Milwaukee's (worst) Best, and busch light was consumed at many a kegger.

Ebiz
The best one that sticks out in my mind is when we used to be able to get kegs of "Gluek Golden" for 29.99. We'd rip of the "Gluek" part of the lable and tell everyone it was Mich Golden.

iland99
Yep, Mickey's grenades were always a hit.Natty Ice was about $6 for a 12 pack, and at 6% alcohol content, it got the job done quickly!Anything in a 40 was cheap and strong, the 2 main requirements of a college beer drinker. For a change of pace, you could buy 2 little sipper flasks of Hot 100 for around $5.Food wise, I pretty much lived on venison cooked in the crockpot. Nate McVey
I remember coming back from spring break one year and found 30 packs of High Life "Ice" for $5.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We bought 15 of them and drank for the rest of the semester......those were the days!
Windy City Walleye Hunter
Funny side story:Back in the day (during the stone age of college) late 70's 4 of us went on a canoe trip. My buddies had a cooler full of Bud and me and my room mate had a cooler full of Olympia. During a canoe fight, we managed to tip both canoes and my buddies were laughing their a$$es off as they watched me and my room mate trying to corral all the cans of Olympia that were floating down the river. We got the last laugh as their cans of Bud sunk to the bottom of the river. Valuable lesson as we cracked up watching the two of them diving down trying to feel for their cans of the King of Beers!!!Those were the days, my friend, thought they would never end.....Windy
toughguy
I almost always get light beer when one the ice or in a boat for that expact same reason. Floaters will save you every so often. I first learned that lesson on the Apple River.
toughguy
Gluek, Hauenstien, Schmidts, Hamms 30 pack, Busch light, Northern Light, Piggs eye, High Life. I could go on for pages.
Meat-Run
We lived on Mac-cheese, and my favorite was "Grouse stu" two grouse breasts, 1 can of cream of mushroom, and box of Rice a Roni in a crockpot. Or walleye, and perch most of the year. Bemidji State Alumni and we lived like kings. From Slims cheese burgers and a frosty Labatts and there chili I thought I died and gone to heaven. OR the we would start are weekend at the Corner Bar for a "Corner Burger". I think it was like a half pounder, maybe Chris Haley can confirm that. One point to make or observation is when in college I was a work-study student for about 4 years and my take home or "living expenses check" was $100 for two weeks and we lived very well on that. Now I can't even think how far I can get for $100!! Beer, Gas, Ammo, Bait, more beer, more bait, more hunting gear, hunting licenses. Just crazy and I would give up everything I have now to do it all over again because it was one of the best times of my life. MR
B420
Any type of keg beer, The "Beast" light in cans, lots of gordons gin and silver wolf vodka. The silver wolf is quite possibly the worst vodka I ever had!

Silver Wolf is horrid though. I remember giving my buyer a $10 bill and telling them to get as much booze as possible. They walked out with a 1.75 of Silver Wolf and handed me a dollar in change. I thought I was onto something until I tasted it.....

BLACKJACK
Mac and cheese, romains, Hamburger Helper, chicken breasts with Shake and Bake, bolongne, and of course grilled cheese. We got the 5 pound chunks of commodity cheese and we had grilled ham and cheese, grilled tomato and cheese, grilled tuna and cheese, grilled onion and cheese, etc. My folks would also let me dip into their freezer and take some burger and steaks back with me. And of course lots of Blatz!!! I did 10 hours of work study a week, that $30 bought me a case of beer, a tank of gas, and a little spending money.
