One word - cranks! smile.gif Retrieved just outside steep weedlines on underwater points and inside runs... been very impressed with the Rapala DT Flat Sure Set series with the coffin-shaped lip and wide-gap rear treble hook, prolly the best bass crank I've used in a long time.

Anybody else fish today(wed)... I fished from about 6am till about 2:30.. had a stinking blast.. not to hot, slight breeze from the south/west, overcast, and the fish were ready to play the little tug a war game... I didn't keep track of how many fish I caught, but weighed my fish on my cull scale... Would have had 19lbs 6 oz for my top 5 fish. caught all the fish on drop shot and stupid rig. 3'-14' of water.

Caught my best fish ever today of a senko. It was over 5 and a half pounds and gave me an awesome fight. It was caught on a senko inbetween weeds and a dock in 2 fow. It took 6 minutes to bring in blush.gif, Buried itself in everything.

I should have brought in to christophersons, would have won the junior division...........

I hit a lake yesterday evening and the fish were definatley feeding well. I thought with the cooler temps and rain I might find a better shallow bite than I had been expierencing this year and it was a little better but not much. I still found the majority of my fish in the same deep locations points, breaks, rocks... The fish were jumping all over crankbaits also caught a few of jigs. It was one of my better trips of the year with 2 over 20" a 19", 18" and some shorter fish.

*Edit, added a few pics from the day...

We had our last tournament today on horseshoe chain for big bass bonnaza. What a great day to be on the water....if your a duck. I was looking forward to fishing it becuase i had great fish working for me when i prefished it. We ended up in 7th our of 45 with 16.52 lbs. I caught almost everything on a jig today, working trees and lumber. Also found some fish with a jig worm and stupid rig on a outside weed line. We must have caught 15 fish all day, but alot of 14-15 inch fish. It was a fun time on the lake, besides the awesome weather we had today.

I got out yesterday after work and it was decent considering the scattered storms and lightning throughout the evening. I caught my biggest fish deep on a drop shot on a "nothing" looking shoreline that had a steep drop. I was also surprised that the shallow bite was still on with temps dropping and staying at 70-72 degrees, I thought it would be a few days untill those shallow fish became active again after this cold front, but they were hitting a frog pretty good..learn something new out there everyday. Biggest two were at 18" on the drop shot with a 4" straight tail finesse worm and a standout hook, can you guess who showed me how to dropshot? haha, I love that rig now!

Stopped by a local lake yesterday to get a few hours of fishing in. To bad the weather kinda sucked. It would rain for a bit and stop and then rain some more and so on. But the fishing was great. I was out from 2-5 and ended up catching 20-25 Bass. The smallest was 14" and the largest went 20". A vast majority of the fish were 17-18"

Here are some pics:

Well, if you like to topwater fish tonight was another one of the nights were the water is like glass and the topwater hit can almost give a guy a heart attack.

My number one presentation is still the Senko followed by Mr. tube however I have definatly focused on top waters this year. It has paid off as the smallmouth on the river and large mouth on some of the local ponds have not dis-appointed. Also as I have posted I have got many bonus tiger musky on the topwaters.

Got out for just a bit tonight and the bite after the rain recently was very good. Again the topwaters I am having the most succes with are the heddon tiny torpedo, regular torpedo, and some other walk the dog style. The little props on the torpedo's twitched ever so slightly really entice the strick. I would guess it give the impression of some large winged insect like a draggon fly or other bug struggling on the top and an easy quick meal. I have been trying some of the chug or hula popper style as well but not as much success on these.

Hope to get out again the next few evenings for a longer period of time.

The deeper bite and dropshotting that Dietz and others have spoke of is of course working well to but I am kind of hooked on the surface strike.

I am hoping this fall to again top the 22" mark for large mouth and smallmouth. This year my numbers are about the same but I have not got as many 22 or larger bass in like years past. Certainly not complaining as the bite has been great just looking for a few more pigs for the fall. I also focus a bit on the pig walleyes in the fall.

OCF, there are endless ways to fish a tube. Some examples would be weightless, t-rigged, drop-shot, carolina rig/mojo rig, on a jig head, and I'm sure theres more. I'd say I fish them most often on a texas rig or weightless skipping docks. I have tried them on a drop shot with some success too. They are a very versatile soft plastic and can be used on both extremes from flipping and pitching with big line all the way to finesse fishing with 6lb test... Maybe give us an idea of what technique you would like to use them with and we could try and better explain how to work the tube w/ that specific technique... this may or may not have helped..

Sounds great Mr pike. This is little of topic, but how do you fish a tube? I never catch anything on it and have no confidence.

Another way they dont see a lot is to... this may be hard to explain. I take a plain lead 1/8oz. lindy-rig walking weight, cut about half off with a needle nose, take the tube and start to t-rig it. Put the hook in the half inch into the nose of the tube, push it through just as usuall, then when you go to hook the tube the 2nd time, put the hook through the 1st wall of the tube, then with the walking weight in the pliers, hook the weight on to the hook, the finish t-rigging the tube. Hope that wasn't too complicated. So, all in all you have a t-rigged tube, with the weight in the back of the tube. It gives it a unique falling "action." Good Luck wink.gif

I just started throwing tubes myself this year and have had very good success. I have found that a inner tube jig with a rattle has produced better for me then without. I fish it hook exposed and will cast into or above weeds near sharp breaks. If I do not get hit on the drop I work it back many times having to rip it through weeds. I would say that 25% of my hits come on the initial cast and the rest are either just after I rip it from the weeds or yo-yoing back to the boat. Many strikes come very close to the boat. I am a huge drop shot fan but the tube is becoming my close second. Previously I was a huge senko fan but found that I was getting to dependent on it and over looking many other very effective methods like t-rigging power worms and covering water with a spinner bait. On my last time out I did not even try a senko and have found that I now only throw them about 1/10th of what I used to. My fishing as far as numbers has not changed all that much but the quality of fish has improved noticeably. I also like the tube because of all the wind we had this year it has provided me options to fish in areas that a senko was not an option because of line swoop. Give the tube a try. I also prefer the the 3" power tube over the 4". Probably just a personal thing. Good Fishing!!

I went out yesterday morning with a coworker (both he and I got the day off due to it being slow) took the canoe out on Gervais and I caught a small sized Smally on a beetle spin. He grabbed it as soon as it hit the water. not one bite on anything the rest of the day however.

I really wasnt expecting anything due to the weather, but we got the day off so we went fishin.
