Happy B-Day Hanson

Even though its League night, I'd prefer to save the big one for tomorrow night when I take my dad out flatheading for the first time. That would be a better birthday present than catching one tonight. smile.gif

Happy birthday Hanson. How did you do Saturday? Saw your truck at the launch, but we ended up not making it too far. Motor troubles. Luckily we didn't get that far and we were still close to the launch. We dropped anchor and started messing with the motor with no luck. Then, I think it was WWG who came over and gave us a tow back.

Well...

Dad got his first Flathead, about a 5 pounder, if that, at 8:00pm. It was a cute little guy. Really weird coloring on him. I said he was lucky cause I had to fish for 3 years to finally catch one during the day, he gets his first during the day.

Then nothing until 11:00-11:30 or so when the right rod got run over! Rod tip was swaying side to side and the clicker zipped all in an instant. I asked dad if he kicked the rod but I knew what happened, old flatty wanted to eat! Nothing happened after that so I picked the rod up to see if he was sitting there with it. Nothing. About 15 seconds later, thump, thump, thump, thump, and line started burning off the spool under my thumb. What a great feeling. I bet I let him run 20' and I set hard. We both (the fish & myself) stopped dead in our tracks. I think I grunted "oooof!". I was going to hand dad the rod at this point but seriously thought I was snagged as neither one of us were winning the battle. I finally felt thump, thump again as the fish pulled drag off my 7000, then he turned and swam at the boat. I cranked as fast as I could to keep pressure on him when the hook came out.

End of story. See you guys on the water!

Riverhog got his motor fixed yesterday, and I got my bigger boat ready to go on sunday. So we will definately be out somewhere this weekend. Maybe after work this week sometime even. We weren't finished after the stall on saturday either. We dropped off his boat and headed to MPLS to finish the night from shore. I picked up one flathead that went 24.....inches! crazy.gif
