I was out on a local lake yesterday to do a little Pike fishing. On the first cast I made I ended up landing a Bass that measured over 20". I was suprised by the catch considering I was fishing a mid-lake island that normally doesn't hold Bass untill mid-June

Fishing in WI, last week fish weren't bedded yet and caught 4 bass 3 pike in two hours fishing black spinnerbaits over emerging weeds.

This last week they have bedded. Was wading a little bay on friday and managed 3 females, biggest was 18" on baby bass colored plastic jerkbaits bounced over the nests in 6" to a foot of water. Quick releases. Want to get out in a boat or canoe before they get off the beds though cause shore fishing is limited and they are very spooky.

With the way the weather is this year, the fish probably think it's mid-june already. That bass probably spawned out a week or two ago, crazy as that may sound.

i was out 2 days last week depending on the lake the fish where in all three phases of the spawn. even on the same lake. i didn't find all to many post-spawn females but i did see a few recouping under dock and along shorelines. as everyone else has said there was a lot of spawning going on during the week. best fish was a pre-spawn female that was over 5.

I did the opener at Vermillion. We fished bass and between 2 guys boated over 100 fish 12"-20" all largmouth between Sat morning and Monday noon. Most in the 2-3 pound range with a few in the 4 range nothing giant but loads of fun. Great way to kick off the season. We did get three smallies 2 pups and one 18". Most everything on worms and jig/pig. I will going back for a week in early June then the smallies should be going. Best weather on the opener I ever remember. I did get one walleye but it was an accident about 19". All fished released.

Confused... this is what I saw when I looked it up... Lake Vermilion Smallmouth Bass Fishing. The season for bass fishing opens May 26,2007 and closes February 24, 2008. (Look it up, since I can't post links here)... Do they have a separate season for smallmouth vs. largemouth? That would explain it.... but how could you target just smallies? And yikes.. with it being so far north.. why would the season begin earlier and not at least later?

I looked up the regs and didn't see anything about Vermillion and bass. If this is true, why would they EVER make something so confusing as different regs north of some unknown highway? Unreal.

sicheneder,

Yes we were in the Cook area. Fished both west side and east side. The GPS showed we traveled 116 miles so we were all over that lake.

Sly- look at page 15 of the of the 2007 Regs you will see that Smallmouth and Largemouth are open May 12th north of Duluth. As Dietz mentioned north of hwy 2. The regs state it is open north and east of hwy 53 from Duluth. Hope that clears it up for you. It is great that we can fish them early but does require a drive. Good fishing!!

My partner caught 5 or 6 bass last night in probably 3 to 5 feet of water. I caught 2 pike one being 35 inches and only 1 bass at 18 inches. I really need to get a camera. My wife won't let me take our "nice one" fishing. frown.gif

First boat on Lake George @ 5:45 this morning. Caught an 18 inch bass on my first cast into a reed bed. It was my biggest of the day and the only one from the reeds. I got 1 @ 18, 3 @ 16, 2 @ 15, 3 @ 14 1 @ 12, and a baby that was prob 8 inches. Besides the first biggie which was caught on a Junebug Comida (thanks Exude and Deitz from last years FM bass Event), The rest of my bass came over sparse cabbage in 3 to 6 feet of water between the sparse thin inside weedline where the cabbage started and the deeper inside weedline where the thick Milfoil or in some spots Curly pondweed started. I was using a white 3/8 oz spinnerbait w/white shad pattern stickers on the blades for all but one that came on a pop-r (per earlier post regarding top-water, I had to get at least one blow-up). I came in at 10:45, because today is my daughter's birthday, I couldn't stay out too late. Good Luck

Went to a lake in Scott County today and caught about 30 bass between 3 people. Biggest were 4 lb 3oz and 5 lb 4oz, respectively. Average fish was about 2 pounds. Most caught on wacky worms and tubes. Can't wait to get to Prior on Sunday and see how that goes.

I got out for a little pond hopping today and got some nice largemouths. they were shallow, inside weedlines. reeds, and overhanging trees all held fish. Got some on RingN tubes, and some on plastic flukes.

Just got back from the cabin tonight. Man was it windy up there! Caught a total of 61 bass in the last two days, all fish were between 12 and 17 inches, no real big ones, but some solid 2.5 to 3lb fish. I caught them on a variety of lures, but the two that produced the best was a spinnerbait and a swimbait. The fish were all in 6FOW or less with a majority of them still prespawn. I caught fish around docks, shallow pads, wind blown rock piles and rice patties. I caught most of my fish on a huge flat that is full of rice patties in the summer. The rice has not yet reached the surface yet and throwing those spinnerbaits and swimbaits just under the surface over the rice weed tips worked best. Today it got real sunny and calm in the afternoon which totally killed the spinnerbait bite that had produced in overcast weather. I tied on a new swimbait that I ordered from California this winter and wow, I'm hooked! That bait really produced today.

Might try and get out on a south metro lake tomorrow, we'll see. Hope everyones opener went well!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
