Cabelas stopped carrying MarCum flashers

If it's like Gander and Bass Pro in NY I know fully why and that's because of the lack of ice there worried about being stuck with an overstock of units. For these retailers to run out before Christmas is a travesty. Some didn't even get the new units. Then you wonder why Gander is in the red quarter after quarter except for last quarter where they were in the black. It's a travesty for holiday shoppers. It seems like your only options are Thorne Bros or Reeds and as usual out east most will be purchased on line yet again. Frustrating every year...

I was at the Roger's store on Sunday. I asked if they had any VX-1's and they told me that they were sold out but would be getting more in soon. He couldn't give me an exact date. He said that they got a big shipment of VX-R's in on Friday and they were sold out by Sunday morning. I guess the VX-R is basically the same as the VX-1 except it says Cabela's on it and comes with a soft case. The VX-R didn't have the 50 rebate available. Not sure when more will be coming in...the guy I talked to didn't seem very knowledgeable. It definately looked like they were pushing the Vexilar's harder than the Marcum's. The Vexilar's got a huge display in the aisle and the Marcum's were tucked away behind the counter.

This kind of thing happens every year. I went to gander last week to get a travel cover for an otter and they were already out. The salesguy said they wouln't be getting any more until next year. Each year the lakeville gander runs out of 3 lb ice line, lures, and combos just a few weeks afer xmas. I understand they don't want to be stuck with overstock but the season has only just begun!!! we have 3 more months to go. I too can see why gander stock is in the crapper.

My experience (12-9-06) is Cabelas (Rogers) has Vexilars up to the wazoo out in the aisle, annual observation during the ice season. It appears they are in bed with Vexilar or they simply do this because Vexilar has the name recognition.

One of the salesmen whom was very knowledgeable was pimping the Marcum products as well as he could. He knew all the stats and numbers and easily convinced a couple to purchase a Marcum product over the Vexilar product. He even had a laminated cheat sheet with specifications.

His Marcum stock looked very small and at the back of the counter. Does Vexilar and Cabelas have an agreement to do this, I do not know. But they had product available 2 weeks ago. On the floor did not look like very much stock, but who knows what they had in the warehouse.

Has the popularity of the VX-1 outsold expectations?

The Minnetonka Gander is about the biggest cluster and always has been. Sheleves are usually half stocked and half the merchandise is not even price marked, very frustrating. Looking forward to the Eden Prairie location to see if anything improves.

If it's anything like last year... They don't want to be overwhelmed with problematic issues i.e. knobs falling off, transducers going out, leaky cams, and cams starting on fire. Customer satisfaction is what it's all about right? Customer's were dissatisfied! Vxr, Vs cheapie, ovs 460/560.

Or they are sold out because Marcum sells a better unit for less money.

Cabelas still has them online.

Looking for my LX-3tc last year at either Cabelas or Gander this time in the season was a joke. I only found a scattered few Marcum units stuffed in a cluttered shelf at (Lakeville) Gander nothing in a LX-3, and Cabelas was a order situation. Vexilar was loud and proud everywhere in the two places. Niether place was very concerned or energetic about getting me the unit or reference me to where I could get one.

I ended up going to Thorne Bros and got my LX-3tc after over a week spent trying to find someone with one.

Was at Cabelas last night, they were out of their version of the Marcum, no idea if they would see any more this year. Told the guy I wanted to spend under $300, he kept pointing me at Vexilar and the more expensive Marcum. Finally got him to show me the Aqua-Vu VPG, which he than said was as good and better in SOME ways than the Vex or Marc. I did get the VPG, price was right. Anyway, it is amazing how many Vexilars they had left. I would figure Vex would outsell Marcum mainly due to name recognition. Side note: I can't stand the Minnetonka Gander; too small, cluttered, limited supply.

Here, here, Slayer. The Maplewood Ganders although smaller than some of the other stores seems to be always well stocked. Also the guys working there can always find the hidden stock. They have always been helpful and even when they couldn't come up with what I was looking for they got someone real quick who could. They also have better deals at the end of the ice season than most. They seem more motivated to deal out their remaining stock than store it. Maybe because of less space but it was nice to see them give me an honest bottom line price on some large ticket items rather than start real high and make me fight it down only to quash the deal and just store it. Anyway I would recommend this place for those of you that feel hassled at other stores.

The guys at the Mankato Gander have always been very helpful and I know they have the Marcums in stock. Was just there yesterday and saw them myself. Could be an option for those of you still looking and frustrated.

Gander is getting to be pretty famous for running out of "standard" stuff real early in every season.

I was at Cabela's on Saturday night in Rogers. I saw Marcums.

Sounds to me like you talked to a sales guy who didn't know his you know what from a hole in the ground.

Uhm , isn't the Cabela's Flasher really a Marcum LX-1 or 2. I thought I heard info that the cabela's brand name flasher is actually made by Marcum.

Note I do not know this to be a fact. But it sure does look like it if you get a chance to look one over. Same as The Gander brand named flasher.

Sort of correct there. The Cabelas Flasher is the VX-R, which happens to be pretty identical to the Marcum branded VX-1. Yes, it is a Marcum product.

So if Vex & Cabelas are really buddy-buddy like has been mentioned many, many times, why isn't their own brand name flasher a Vex?

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
