Tim and I plan on driving up to the Angle over Thanksgiving to hit the ice any ideas on where we should go and should we bring sleds or weelers? Any help would be apreciated.

I'd say you'd be better off leaving the machines at home. Bring your survival suits and lifejackets instead.

Who's gonna be the first thru the LOTW ice this year??? It's a very rare year to see Wheelers out on the ice by Turkey day weekend. A walk out on to the ice may be doable if it gets cold enough to make good ice between now and then, and be sure you know what areas to avoid.

Be waaay careful iffin you do go. Being your from Fargo you may want to wait till you hear of some locals venturing out onto the ice before you drive all the way up.

I'm 100% with fisky on this one. Might be doable, but I'd be dang sure of it before I drove all the way up there. Personally, I'd wait a couple weeks from the date you mentioned regardless of what I was hearing about ice.

JZ,

Even though I see you are wearing your life jacket, I don't think it would be much help.

The water is still wet, and the temps. tell me it will be for some time.

Best thing you can do is wait till a local professional like rbach gives the big OK.... then stop by Flag with your friend and buy him a beer shocked.gif

JZ,

I have read many posts on FM that have been posted by rbach and Hemlock, they both are truely "wise" men when it comes

to LOW. If they say no... then no it is....

If you still think you can go, then, before you go I would pay off any bets you might have made...and another word of advice...

make sure Timmy goes first blush.gif

rbach/Hemlock, what is the latest ice conditions?

There are guys with more that 5 years on this lake telling you it is a bad idea. I would listen to them. No fish is worth a cold swim. The one thing you need to remember also is there are guys that live in the area telling you there won't be ice. I see you are in Fargo so you can't used past history as a guide you need to know what is going on now. They are telling you it isn't making ice.

Hey I am from Valley City ND and I have a Duramax but I really like my truck and I really like my life so I think I am going to wait until the Local fellas start to fish and say that it is a for sure thing. I got the dump scared out of me a couple years ago pushing the early ice thing. I was lucky but I saw enough 4 wheelers sitting on the bottom of 4 Mile Bay to make me ask myself what am I doing out here.

Well, we drove up there with the weelers behind thinking there is no snow so we should be good to go. Not the case unfortunately there was not enough ice to support the weight of the weelers. Maybe next year laugh.gif

JZ,

Glad to hear you and Timmy stayed safe this weekend.

A good freind of mine flew over the lake on Friday, he said there was a boat with two fishermen in it fishing just south of Flag Island, Was that you and Timmy???? If so... Where did you launch??

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
