Open Water 2006 Reports Part II

Recommended Posts

Welcome aboard, cnypanfisher, AKA the other Tim....now we have three "Tim"s here: you, CNY Tim, and Fishingking.

Judging from your name, you must be into panfishing. Me too!! I am out west of you, up in Greece, NY, and I fish Silver and Honeoye Lake a lot for the pannies. This is an excellent site for ice fishing info, so come back often. Now if it would just get cold and freeze the liquid stuff blush.gifblush.gif

Tim,

Looks like you had fun out there...too bad about your rod. crazy.gif

I got out to Lake X Friday night for about 3 hours. Three guys, not one fish. One of the guys had one splash at his lure right at his feet, but other than that it was a slow night. That area might be dried up, but come to think about it, the wind wasn't right, too.

Take care and I will call you at work so we can shoot the you know what grin.gif

I live in a small campground where there is like 10 house trailers right by the side of the lake. One of the campers is from the honeyoye area, and he fishes the lake there a lot as well, I heard there were slab crappies in there. While i've never heard of Silver Lake, i'm gonna poke around and see if I can find it. I fish Big Sodus a few times a year, so a drive to honeyoye wouldn't be a far reach for me. I usually do Big Bay on Oneida 3-4 afternoons during the week, as I usually quit work around 3, and fish till after dark. Last year the ice was terrible, so we couldn't get out to the pug where the big bluegills were. Last January I fished upper Sandy Pond 2 times, called the guy at the bait shop a week later and he told me to bring my boat. We did a lot of traveing to Chaumont Bay and Black Lake to get fair-good ice. At any rate, we are gonna try our luck again tonight and see what happens. We have same conditions for the most part so i'm sure they will be around again.

Think Cold, maybe some snow 4 xmas won't hurt as well.

Hey "the other Tim" welcome . . .I can see it now on the ice . . .Hey Tim how ya doin? good, good, good. . . .LOL. No fishing this weekend . . .muzzle time. At least I got to see a basket 8 pointer for about a fleeting second as it ghosted by me and as I was about to pull the trigger a branch stopped my swing . . .that's just the way it has been this year in the woods . . .so with only 2 more days to go . . .it will be a toss up of either scoring on the lake or enjoying the quite time in the woods . . .

Last night it was so foggy out I could only see about 7 feet in front of me. I tried the black/silver thunderstick again to no avail, I think the fish were as blind as me. So I switched to a brighter color, rapala fire-tiger and managed to get at least 1 last night. There were 3 of us fishing + I got the only hit, tonight its gonna be cooler but it won't be foggy I suppose. Heres a pic of todays lunch, notice I cut xmas cookies for 3 hours before I headed out smile.gif. Looks like its going to be up to 50 degrees all week, last year we were fishing a private pond around christmas, guess we need a canoe this year.

Tight Lines, maybe better pic tommorrow.

Headed to the bridge with them and picked up a pair.Headed to the bar and found it quite rough and very clowdy. No fish there.Managed one on a lg Hj bl/slvr and one on a red/slvr challenger. No one under the bridge and no one at the bar.HMMMMMM shocked.gifOh well. Good to get out for a bit with the boys and catcha couple fish.

Franky is hunting today Greg... It's the last day to get a deer for him, he did go last night to the bar but I don't know if he got skunked quick or limited out quick? I guess will have to wait till he get's out of the woods today to get the report. I did manage to retrieve Dark Cloud out of the bush early this morning he is alive and doing fine and will be talking to him again later. grin.gif

North Shore maybe that spike order should be going in soon, you think....

Saw 2 waders in the water with headlights aglow and then they pulled a jon boat out . . .that you boys out there??!! No way Jose with those waves!! No fish either . . .could not get my lure out where I wanted it to go and most of the time it was 60 degrees off from where I was casting due to the wind and wave action. Left after about 15 minutes and headed to Sylvan on the short pier. 3 guys on buckets casting to the island with red headed yellow number 8 bombers . . .nada. I cast a few with the clown frenzy just because I was there, but saw no baitfish or top water action, plus I had no net and landing a fish there without a net is all luck. No deer today either . . .did not even see one . . .lots of sign, but they are all traveling at night!!! The good news . . .10 silver sided, black back frenzys from Cabelas came in the mail . . .now to find the time to use them!! Jay you old bushwacker you!!!

As they got there Frenzies orders Frank and Greg were stoked in anticipation of another eye slam, but I would have to say boys that the run is done. I had another set of guys catch jack last night and no bait. Today after work I will put the long rods away and break out the In-Fisherman videos and Grumpy Old Men 1 and 2... It is time! What a fall walleye season and I want to give thanks to the fish for cooperating most of the time wink.gif Another good year. I won't close the thread just yet because I am sure there are a few like Slip Bob that can't get enough until theres 6" of ice in his boat, LOL grin.gif. I am closing my 2006 with this. Just want to thank you guys my friends for making it a great year, Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year!

Supposedly its gonna be warmer this weekend, like 50 or so. I think there might be a few stragglers out there, i'm gonna try friday and saturday night. It doesn't look like we are getting ice soon.

Where are you guys that mentioned the spike ordering them? I would like to buy like 2000 or so, prices for spikes are crazy now, the closest good bait shop to me is Marion Manor as well (10 miles). Someone here in Constantia opened a baitshop recently and just sold minnows and worms for the most part, i'm hoping he opens again when we get ice.

Tight lines TO Tim

Well if I had a nice ride like that I'd have to go as well, I also think i'll move up to trying the point tonight as is looks real nice out. You sound like a guy that likes to go perch fishing in your boat april. If you go to oneidalakefishing.com and look at the fish pics for april, theres pics there from 2005 and 2006. I think its the most overlooked time of year to fill your freezer with perch, my gf like to eat the eggs, and that the best time for those. My brother in-law is a fair weather fisherman with a 2004 mercruiser with a 4-stroke motor on it, he stops fishing in september. I think some of the best fishing on Oneida is april, june, september-december myself. At any rate im off, heading out to get some line 4 my tip-downs and jigging poles.

Ty 4 the info on the spikes, i'll order some today.

Fair weather fishermen need not post replies. ;-)

And what a boat it is to Slip!!! Well I have had the pleasure of fishing out of Tuzzy's Tracker 16' Deep V all spring and summer, a trip with Slip Bob's Lund Pro Angler 17' and Steve's 18' Lund Alaskan. Thanks for letting me be apart of your guys trips I'm indebted to you. Meeting new friends and fishing with old friends it doesn't get any better than that.

Got the new Marcum VX-1 today and just need some ice now. I bought a new truck and I'm ready to put some miles on it. If anyone is interested in doing the Trap Attack and needs a partner give me a shout, I'm no rookie and would love to give it a try.
