  1. Hello guys, Got a chance to get on Honeoye yesterday from 11am to 4pm. Drilled one hole all day, and it was a good one. Caught a ton of fish. Ice was in great shape....8"+!!! One my first drop, got a nice 10.5" crappie. Kept 21 gills over 9", 4 crappies, and 3 perch. Threw back a bunch of gills 8-8.5", which shows the consistent big bluegill factory that Honeoye is known for.....
  2. I fished Honeoye Lake solo today from 11am to 3pm. It was the first time off a new private access near California Ranch........I got a late start because of an unscheduled family commitment. Any way, the home owner's access is excellent, as it is easy walk too and from the ice. I was in search of the deep basin perch, so I ventured over to the eastern side.....got to a spot and immediately caught a nice 12" perch.....soon after that I got another just shy of that. After that, it was slow!! I ended up with 6 keepers over 10" with about 20 throwbacks under 9" I ended up filleted the 6 keeper perch for the homeowner, and she was very much appreciative. A gold YBD and Maki was what the biggun's wanted today...
  3. Quote: Talked to Fishingking on the ice this a.m., were fishing C Friday. Ice conditions still spotty 2-4" with 12" of snow on top, going light as possible, see you @ 6 a.m. Asked him about bringing a shovel forget it, Once you pop a hole and get settled in immediately a 1/4" of water is flooding the hole area. Looks like the cold last night didn't do very much. Timmy, that sounds a little iffy ice conditions bro...I wouldn't do that. Spotty 2-4 inches of ice with 12" of snow on top, then you drill a hole and water comes up? Stay safe!! Again, I wouldn't do that
  4. Got on Silver Lake yesterday at Macks and walked to within 200 yards of the open water still in the mid lake section. Set up in 26FOW, and marked perch almost the whole time there. The trouble was mostly all were under 8". I must have caught 70-80 of those small ones, but I did manage four 12" hogs! Sight fished for about an hour before I left and got a few small gills. The ice was safe and solid at 5" thick!!! Got to within about 200 yards of open water and I said that is far enough!! Frankie, this is for you!!!
  5. I am hoping to get on top of the south end of Honeoye for the second time this year tomorrow morning, but the ice might be shot. Waiting for a decent report from some guys I know. Tim, Todd, and others...you guys need to come up once the weather gets colder!!!
  6. DC, That looks like a lot of fun...thanks for sharing the pics. We got a lot of snow here up in Greece, but I hope it doesn't hinder the ice making in the Finger Lakes region as well as Silver Lake. FK: Let me know if Lake C is good to go...I didn't make it there last year at all (bad snow/ice conditions) but the year before I made it 3 or 4 times. It would be worth the 3 hour drive for me for some of those nice perch.
  7. Todd, Thanks for keeping us updated on Timmy and Kyle...even though they didn't do very well today, they were there giving it their all! I am sure Timmy has some good stories to tell when he get back
  8. Quote: Bigjohnny, any word on Ice at silver?? Gonna be there over x-mas and wondering if i should take the stuff with me?? I can't make any calls on the ice on Silver at this point...they are getting a lot of snow right now. A lot of snow on top of non-safe ice will not do any good. The long term forecast calls for COLD, though. I would at least bring your stuff. I am off that whole week, so I'll be there if things get safe...especially at the south end shallow by Macs
  9. Quote: BigjohnneyIce, I just got off the phone with Timmy he wants to thank you for the peanut butter tet-r's they are Todd, I haven't been on here in awhile, so I need to get caught up....I went through a two-week sick thing with a severe sinus infection thing. Glad to hear Timmy is doing Ok...I just made up some of those peanut butter jigs a couple of nights ago DC and Tank: Nice catch guys! First ice fever...I got on Braddock's Bay up here for a couple of hours and got into some so-so perch. It was nice to be out!
  10. Tim, I am going out Monday on IR Bay for the BIG O (Ontario) lake-run perch. My father-in-law is joining me on this adventure... I haven't been able to post lately (busy), but I made a solo mission to Silver and did Ok.....no big perch, but some nice smallies and some HUGE gills. Also, I went to Keuka with the Wizard and we did nothing worth mentioning.
  11. I thought that this was pretty funny...maybe you saw this already... YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRUE UPSTATE NEW YORKER WHEN: If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Upstate New York. If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights a year because Saranac Lake is the coldest spot in the nation, and Syracuse gets more snow than any other major city in the US, you might live in Upstate, NY. If your local Dairy Queen is closed from October through May, you might live in Upstate New York . If you get 131 inches of snow in a week and you comment that 'winter's finally here', you might live near Oswego in Upstate New York. If you instinctively walk like a penguin for six months out of the year, you might live, bundled up, in Upstate New York. If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you might live in Upstate NY. If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, you might live in Upstate New York. If you have worn shorts and a parka on the same day, you might live in Upstate New York. If you have had a lengthy phone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you might live in Upstate New York. "Vacation" means going South past Syracuse for the weekend. You measure distance in hours. You know several people who have hit a deer more than once. You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again. You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked. You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend/wife knows how to use them. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow. You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction. You can identify a southern or eastern accent. Down South to you means Corning . Your neighbor throws a party to celebrate his new shed. You go out for a fish fry every Friday . Your 4th of July picnic was moved indoors due to frost. You have more miles on your snow blower than your car. You find 10 degrees "a little chilly." and 55 is shorts weather.
  12. Jay and Tank, Great job on opening day! Meat in the freezer is always good....Like you said, bring on the big boys! And Jay, that first picture from your standin the woods is AWESOME....I am going to print it out on put in my office if you don't mind.....
  13. Todd, looks like those eyes are starting, but like you said with this warm weather, it will delay things a little. I got on Irondequoit Bay yesterday for a little perch fishing with a group of guys from another site I belong to. We had a good time, and some good fish were caught. Scott 'Maki Plastics' showed up, too, and had a bunch of his stuff with him. He didn't take as much home with him!! Here are some pics that were taken: Here is me on WNYBassman's Ranger boat talking to the other guys with my radio. It was a Navy Fleet of boats out there. Me with a couple of nice ones: And WNYBassman with a few dandys, too: And Scott 'Maki Plastics' doing a solo mission... And a final group shot at the day's end:
  14. Looks like you guys (and girls) are having a good time east of me!! I made the solo trip to Silver this past Friday, and I was in search of the perch. Well, I didn't catch a single one all day!!! I tried everything at all the spots I know, but not even a dink. I thought it was going to be a good day, as I landed two nice smallies at my first spot. I thought the perch were going to bite, too, but nada. I went to several other spots, and I got into some really nice gills at my fourth spot of the day....the last pic shows the huge schools of fish that I found in 29 FOW. Couldn't get any of them to bite (Sorry about the fish pics, but it is a little difficult to take some decent pics by yourself LOL!)
