New Arrow Rest Review.

I thought I would share a little product review for anyone that is looking at getting or switching to a new arrow rest.

I bought my Matthews Switchback XT this past January and started out using the Whisker Biscuit deluxe model and always have been happy with it. Well, I am a typical guy and always has to be tinkering and changing things. I sure like the WB’s simple idea....total containment and even I cant mess it up. However, I always like the idea of the fall away rest concept but was not sure which one to buy.

I put a QAD UltraRest LD on my bow yesterday and couldn’t be happier. It provides total containment until you release. This model locks down when released so no fletching contact....and in the event you need to have a slow let down...the release stays up in the containment position. Pretty neat stuff. If anyone of you are in the market for a new rest...I think this model is worth a serious look.

I use the Trophy Taker drop away rest and have never had any problems with it. I have a piece that sticks onto the shelf of the bow and the arrow clips into it until you draw back and the rest will pick it up out of it. The arrow will stay clipped in no matter what way you turn your bow but it will come smoothly out when the rest picks it up. The Trophy taker rest has deep enough forks to hold the arrow in with any practical shootin position.

I have the "Bisquick" style on my new switchback as well..I I considered that rest you are talking about but passed on it. I may look at it next year. You will have to update us on how it does in the field.

Shot yesterday in Barnesville and hit some 3-d targets -- I was pretty happy with my shooting. Also shot some trap. You should come out sometime.

I didnt realize there was a place in Barnesville to shoot. I have been doing most of my shooting at the Moorhead archery range.....so far I am really enjoying this new rest..I think its a keeper but only time will tell. I got this Robin Hood yesterday at 30 yards...only the 2nd time in my life this has happend to me (sorry about the pic..its from my cell) Take care.

Yeah they have a nice place out there. If you know somweone in the Barnesville rod and gun club you are good to go. Otherwise we are there most Tuesday nights. Let me know if you want to tag along one night. But I will be busy with early goose --

Cliffy - two questions: does that rest come with some moleskin type material on the rest and second, how big is that muskellunge you are holding in that thar avatar??

I have been thinking about a fall away rest for awhile now but have not changed.I dont really have any problems with my arrow falling off.The arrow rest you are using now Cliffy,is the arrow quiet when shot as no drag and noise? That would be the biggest concern to me as how quiet it is.

Another drop-away rest that you may want to look at is the RipCord. It also offers total containment. You can lock the rest in an upright position at any time you want and still have total containment. And as soon as you release you cant hear anything except for the arrow splicing through the air.......or you can draw back to have the rest go up into position.......just another option.!!!!

I have the Ripcord on my XT. Its been a great rest through my 7 months of practice. Cabin Fever installed it and they put moleskin under and along side it. It is dead silent as far as I can tell. I like to the containment of the arrow so I push the rest in the up position when I nock my arrow. So far I would highly recommend the Ripcord.

a little trick one can use to help silence a rest that has a bare surface, is to first ; wipe your arrow off before knocking it.( cleans any dust off it) second it , just before knocking the arrow take your finger, and rub/wipe it along the side of your nose.( you will get a little oil from your skin) and rub it on the surface of your rest.

The QAD does come with some mole skin that fits over the "forks"...and there is no noise when you draw your arrow back. There is also no noise on the shot..as the forks fall and stop level with the shelf...not striking it.

I also considered getting the “Ripcord” arrow rest...but I guess the thing that sold me on the QAD was the fact that you can draw...and let down and the rest will remain in the containment position...it only falls when you shoot. Meaning, if you pull back on a deer and for some reason you cant take the shot, you can let down your draw..and the forks stay up...thus no noise of the arrow bouncing off the shelf or worries of getting the arrow back on the rest. Don’t get me wrong..I am not bad mouthing the Ripcord at all....just telling you why I picked the QAD.

Cooter: The muskie was only 45 inches....but it was very fat. It looks bigger due to the resizing I had to do to make it fit the avatar space.

yeah, dont get me wrong...I was very happy to CPR that ski....I am just a typical muskie nut...always wanting bigger.

Yup, the QAD Ultra LD was 110.00 bucks...but I have heard them going cheaper on HSOList. Are they worth the money?....I sure like it...but that is me.

Thanks for posting this Ciffy....I got the QAD (Ultra rest) LD. Shot it last night and robin hooded my 3rd arrow. I can't beleive the tight groups compared to the Diamond Cobra I had. Very happy and like the arrow retention and quietness.
