I have never fished for bass after dark.. they do it down south all the time... I have been waiting for a day.. Well it was too darn hot to fish today in my opinion(I HATE HOT).. winds 5-10, 80% full moon?... I already checked to make sure my lights worked on the boat...

Wish me luck!

I have found that smallmouth do bite well at dusk but never tried after dark. I have of course got walleyes and crappie after dark and surprisingly got into sunfish and Pike.

I know that the guys on Vermillion fish Muskys after dark and do very well on the big fish.

I am curious as to see your results as well.

I have some top waters tied on(popr baits, and buzz baits).. and Jig and pig.. and spinnerbaits.. that my starting plan... I cant believe how pumped I am... I too have fished walleye after dark... but never bass...

Ok... as you can see by the time I have posted... its 11:45 and I didn't make it till 2-3 like I had hoped.. but I did learn a few important things...

#1-to go night fishing it may be best to choose a night in which its slightly cooler.. so that you can wear long sleeves.. that way the bugs cant get you as well.. I had a 3rd layer of skin called bug spray..and I didn't get bit much.. but they enjoyed walking on me.. which "buged" me.

#2 That just because the internet says its 80% full moon, its probably equally if not more important to know that the "moon"that is 80% full is on your side of the dang earth...When you can no longer see your shoes, and you hope your casts hit water, you know its dark.

I did catch 3 fish.. but all before 10pm and I could still see.. they were all caught well after sunset, but again.. I could still see. None caught after that.

That sux,

My personal best outing for bass was at night about 5 years ago, I fish bass a few times a year specifically at night, especially on hot days like we have been having, anyway, a buddy and I were fishing a local lake and were picking up a few here and there and then all of a sudden about 1:00 am we hit a stretch of shoreline where seemingly every cast we boated a bass, we fished till the sun came up and lost count of how many bass we caught, at least 100 though no lie. We have been back there since under similar conditons and have yet to repeat that night on the water, we always get fish and good numbers, but not like that. We were using Strike King midnight specials, by far the most productive bass lure I have found for night fishing. It sure is nice and peacful out there though, and the bugs seem to dissapear about 2:00 am typically.

Try agian, you never know.

ohh, I plan on trying again.. just maybe be a little more prepared... and I have another thing I rememberd I needed to change.

#3, normally I wear contacts, but I figgured no need at night because I cant wear my sunglasses anyway.. DUH...but the glare on my glasses(vision galsses, not sunglasses) from the bow/stern lights was so bad... very bad!

Deitz, Deitz, Deitz. grin.gif

After a few nights like last night your body adjusts and an immunity sets in on the skeets........well..... not really. smirk.gif

Yes, the night deal is whole different ball game, but I'm actually to the point where I almost prefer to be out after dark.

You really should have stuck it out, the moon came up just about midnight and lit things up nicely (well maybe too nicely for us cat folk). But I bet from about midnight to 2 there was a monster bucketmouth topwater bite going on wink.gif

Looks like another steamy one tonight.

We are going to see Deitz all decked out in about a week here, he'll have all the toys. That black light stuff mounted on his boat, the line that shows up under the black light as well as hooks and lures, he'll have the head mounted flashlight as well as other lights, yea just wait, he'll be a pro night fisherman in about 3 days.

You guys are far too kind, .. However, I will get a littel better set up.. I do belive there is a night bite.. there were smaller fish(I assumed sunfish, but no way of knowing) that were on the surface feeding much of the night I was out. I through topwaters trying to get a larger fish(I didn't care what it was) to no avail....

I think a black light may be my next buy...

Dtro it is funny you bring that up because it can actually happen. i worked at a Sewage treatment plant for about 4 year and every summer the skeets were mobbing as one can imagine however by about August 1 my body didn't get itchies any more don't know if this is just me or if anyone else had this happen? ike

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
