Who's your favorite team?

I'm pretty much a noob on this baseball forum. Just curious who everyone's favorite team is? For some of you it's obvious. (As it should be)

I've been a Reds fan since 1972. Idolized Pete Rose and Johnny Bench as a boy.

Got a soft spot for the Twins too. Admittedly started during your World Series run in 1987.

I live in Iowa, and most of my buds are Cub fans. So I of course re-live the "curse of the goat" drama year after year.

And I do cheer for the White Sox. Kinda like Teddy Kennedy claps for President Bush at the State of the union address. You know the clap I refer to? smile.gif

Ive always had an american league favorite and a national league favorite.

American = Twins

National = Cubs

I grew up watching the cubs and loved watching Ryne Sandberg. My love for the Cubs has gradually faded after living in the cities for a while, but I still root for them, just not as much as the Twins.

Sandberg has been my all-time favorite player ever, and still is. My first ball game ever was a day game at Wrigley. So I will blame my dad for me being a cubs fan haha

Well, since I grew up in Wisconsin I pretty much aligned myself with the Brewers. Though about the time I was done with college and going through Graduate School, Selig, besides ruining MLB was ruining the Brewers as well. And since I got a job within the Twins organization I started following the Twins a lot more. About 6 years ago, I moved to Minnesota and continued to keep Minnesota as my favorite team now. And since Selig has sold the Brewers I've started to follow them more as well. So there you have it.

AL=Twins

NL=Brewers

No chance though I'm switching from a Packer Fan to a Vikings fan though.

Twins of course. In my op, the most well run sports team and most respected by opponets in MN since the Minneapolis Lakers.

2nd fav is the Yanks. People get upset at me when i say that, but my thoughts are that anybody can win once, but if you win 26 in 85 years-- people are gunning for you, wanting to beat you day in and day out, and that makes YOU better. Everybody talks about their payroll and I admit it's a joke,, but when they won 3 in a row from 98-99-00,,, they did it with players like Brosiuis, O'Neil, Tino, and others who were not nearly at the top of their game or at the talent of what they have now-- but were GAMERS and got it done in the crunch.

National League--- probably the Stros' or the Mets.

Teams I dislike,,, Cubs and Cardinals-- both worthless track records when it comes to recent post-season productivity with the talent they have had to work with. The Cards are becoming the "new" Atlanta Braves,, except they may not ever win "one".

Thanks for your dislike comments Mud, even though nobody asked ya.

Run, you can't go wrong picking Sandberg (Baby Ruth as known by Bruce Sutter). One of the best defensive players ever and an all-around pretty good player for sure. How many of you remember how poorly Sandberg started at the plate in his first yr? Oops, sorry about these comments, nobody asked me.

Fav AL team - too many, but mostly as a kid I remember getting to watch in gym class (during the day) the Tigers '68 series with great names like Kaline, Freehan, Lolich, McLain.... but then again the Twins of my youth had guys like Carew, Killebrew, and Oliva and then there were the Yanks with Ford, Mantle, Maris and my all-time favorite player name - Tom Tresh.

Fav NL team - the '69 Cubs

NL team I dislke the most - the '69 Cubs

Nothing better than having a goat to blame I always say.

Im a true twins fan. I hate every other team besides the twins. If the twins arent in the playoffs or world series I dont even watch those games. If I had to pick a second favorite team if someone held a gun to my head...I would say whatever team has the most former twins on its roster.

I'm pretty much of an all around baseball fan, I don't really have one team that I really like or follow....

YEA RIGHT!!!

Since I was 10 years old back in 1969 my two favorite teams have been....

THE WHITE SOX.....AND WHOEVER IS PLAYING THE CUBS!

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES! Windy

I used to dislike some teams and players when I was a kid. Eventually I figured out that it was MY loss if I couldn't appreciate Hank Aaron, Kirk Gibson, Yaz, Sandberg, Goose Gossage, etc. I should hate Pujols right now, because he rarely misses a chance to crush my Reds, but I just can't do it. I find it impossible to hate any player who displays class, and puts his team before himself.

It kills me everytime I have to listen to someone hate on Pete Rose, even though he probably deserves everything he gets. You probably thing degenerate. I think of a guy sliding head first in a game when the Reds are five runs down. OK, I'm off the soapbox now. smile.gif

Spinner,

I pretty much agree with you. I can enjoy the stars but still not want their team to win though.

As to Rose, he probably was, and still may be, one of the only guys worth $1mill per annum. The owners are nuts to be paying some of these guys. (Guess I gotta take that back alittle, considering many name players put them in the seats and deserve the bigbucks especially for production - these flybynights and benchwarmers at millions+ turn my tummy though) Off MY soapbox now!

Gene

I hope you don't think I was suggesting we should cheer for the Cards or the Astros. (OK, not even the Reds LOL) As I type, I'm listening to MLB radio and cheering for the Braves and Cubs. I don't cheer for Albert, but I appreciate his incredible talent.

Rose was the first non-power hitter to make 100K a year. He about left the Reds during the Big Red Machine WS years to get it. Things have sure changed. You should start a thread about zillion dollar riders of the pine.

Favorite AL team has to be the Twins, even in the years they have been flat out bad.

Favorite NL team, right now Astro's because Clemens is pitching for them. Over 40 years old and still able to dominate a game like that is unreal.

I hate everything about the white sux, from the players to the announcers, to the fans.

Same goes for the yanks, Steinbriener just tries to buy the World Series every year. I think it means way more when teams build from their farm system and then add a couple of free agents to put them over the top. Really have to love how Randy Johnson is stinking up NY since he got there.

NL - St. Louis

AL - Boston

With the exception of Kansas City I think the AL central is most complete division in baseball today. Pitching, offense and defense they have without a doubt set the standard for dominance for the next few years.

34Walleye,

Why are the White Sox classless? Because they're the champs? Maybe you think Ozzie is classless because of the things he's said, but lets be honest.....can you say you've NEVER in your life used the words he's used in the past? If you have, then you're a hypocrite. If you say you haven't, then I say you're full of it.

And who on the Sox are classless? Dye, Thome, Konerko, Iguchi, Podsednik, Crede, Reinsdorf, Anderson? Give me one guy, other than Ozzie, a guy who speaks his mind.......

Please, enlighten us, because that is an STUPID comment.

I dont think the problem is in the context of what he said,or the word he used.

I said this in the previous discussion we all had about this: Being a manager of the World Champion White Sox isnt a right, its a PRIVELAGE, and somebody in that position shouldnt being saying things like that in the media.

A true professional would have handled it differently.

Oh and I got one other guy for your list to add with Ozzie, your fabulous catcher....AJ

AJ......... what has he done this year or last year that has been classless? Get popped by Barret and not retaliate?

Ozzie simply speaks his mind. Have you ever listened to clips of Earl Weaver and his "Coach's Corner" radio show? It's 10 times worse than anything Ozzie's ever said, but is he classless.....did he have to go to sensitivity training? NO!

The problem in society is the Political Correctness talk. You can't say anything without offending a group or a person. If what Ozzie said came out of a homosexual's mouth, it would have been acceptable to that group and to society.
