Lost Boat Key

CanoeCruiser

Question

Ugh. I've lost the ignition key to my fishing machine, and naturually the spare I had is missing as well.

Is it possible to get a replacement from the Dealer, or am I going to have to buy a new ignition switch and keys?

Boat is a Lund Fisherman 1800, with a Suzuki 4-stroke 140....

There are not many keys for motor ignitions. Usually hald a dozen for each brand.

You can call your dealer and ask for a copy or a master key, they should give it to you free.

Next time don't leave the spare still attached with original on ignition.... grin.gif

PS don't worry, it's a common issue, I did it too once....

Why even have a key? I know someone might start your boat and drive off. Hot wiring a boat is as easy as it gets, so again why a key.

Actually a couple of years ago my key broke off if the ignition, so now the key is always in. I simply use a screw driver or coin to turn the ignition and away I go! Second, no one but me knows the key is in the ignition. blush.gif

I keep a spare in my tackle box. If I forget the key and I didn't forget the tackle box I am golden tongue.gif

For the most part unless I leave it docked somewhere I never take the key out.

as mentioned earlier a lot of keys from the same motor will fit in yours. The zip tied key under the dash is the only way to go. I almost never take my key out of the ignition, but the day I do, I know I'll forget it somewhere, get to the lake 2-hours away and then realize it! shocked.gif Luckily, I have my spare sitting under my dash...day saved! laugh.gif

Hope you can get another key from a dealer, good luck.

Called Rapid Sport, and I guess I will either need to pull the ignition switch and get the numbers off the assembly so that they can get the correct key, or bring it up there so we can try multiple keys until we stumble across the right one.

I will DEFINITELY buy a spare and take the zip-tie advice!

Thank you everyone.

I think the number you are looking for is stamped on the bottom of the ignition. I did the same thing with a Rapid Sport boat. When I went to the work bench to get a screw driver for the task, bingo, there were the keys!
