Field Glasses

It depends on if you want it to be the last pair you purchase or not. If you want good glass you have to pay for it. There is a large difference in the quality of optics. When I lived in Minnesota I had a $100 pair of binocs, and when I moved up here I quickly bought new ones, Zeiss. If you plan on going west hunting, or coming to Alaska hunting you will spend hours if not days behind your binocs, or spotting scope. Best to get good glass so you do not get headaches.

My opinion is Zeiss binocs are the best bang for the buck.

I have the 10x30's and I love them, they are light enough to hold up all day, and the glass is clear enough to not give you a headache. I wish I could afford better ones, but they are the best for the money.

Bigyooper, I am in the market for a new spotting scope. Low end, gold ring by leopold, but I would prefer ziess or swarvoski's. Do you ahve these in stock? Email me please at [email protected].

I've had excellent luck with Nikon optics for hunting/bird watching. Nikon gives great bang for the buck. As an optics company that has built on its great reputation for photographic glass, it's hard to beat them for economy and performance combined.

Canon makes wonderful image stabilization binocs, but they are not the greatest where weight and compactness are concerned.

I've used Zeiss, and if my budget was over the moon they'd be in the running. My favorite, however, are Steiners. I've never owned a pair but have used three different models over the years. Tough, tough, tough, as you'd expect military glass to be. If you can find a good used pair of the more compact units, grab 'em.

Went to Cabela's and tested Nikon Monarch ATB, Zeiss Conquest, and Burris Signature 10X30. The best of the bunch was Zeiss Conquest 10x40. The Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42 was as good as the Zeiss 10X30. I just found a site where the Zeiss 10x30 is going for the same price as the Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42. I think I'm going to purchase the Zeiss 10x30. It is lighter and just as good as the Nikon. Just have to run it by the wife. frown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

After wasting money on three cheap pairs, I got Steiner 8x30 Military-Marine binocs. They're great for Minn. hunting and the constant focus is one-who-thinks-I-am-silly-proof. They take all kinds of weather and they're light enough and small enough to carry and use. Stay away from the compact ones, nothing but headaches. The only good compacts I ever saw were German Leitz, and they were out of my market.

I'll put in a plug for the Leupold Wind River Cascades 10x42, great eye relief, lifetime warranty and I REALLY like the locking diopter, I hated putting my old binos up to my eyes and having to re-focus both sides everytime.

Just wondering why you would go to Cabelas for Optics?

I offer special deals for all FM members and we are a MN company.(not to mention we sponsor this site)

the reason the Zeiss are the same price as the Nikons is due to the lens being a 30mm on the Zeiss the Nikon is a 42mm. this is a big difference when you are talking light gathering for low light conditions. I have been doing this for 6 years, if you want the best in service and the best prices just email me.

Guys

Today I spent some time with Nick at Optics4Hunting in regards to binocs and a night vision scope. We talked on the phone numerous time in regards to these products.

After talking to Nick and finding out what they offered for products and service and price,I then check all over the net and talked to a few other dealers that advertised the best prices.

In the end I purchased a pair of field glasses and a night vision scope. The price with the F.M. discount was the very best price that I could find.No one even came close to his.Thier service is also very good.

If you are in the market for some type of optics,it would be in your best interest to at a minimum call Nick and see what he has to offer.

Its not every day that you will find good service and a great price all in the same shop. smile.gif

\Nick,thanks for the great product and the time you spent with myself on the phone today. smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

Nick, where are you located in case a person wants to come and look thru a spotting scope? Some day soon - when I get the funds - I'd like to upgrade my cheap Cabelas scope. Its better than nothing but I'd like a scope that I could look at a duck 200 yards away and see the holes in its bill or read the numbers on a banded martin.

Also, the reason people goto Cabelas is becasue they're probably not aware that you're on this site, I know I wasn't.

bigyooper,

Sorry, man. I thought I would be friendly and help out fellow FM'ers by showing them where to get cheap in price, but good in quality optics.

Here is the thing about the Zeiss 10x30. It is smaller and lighter than the Monarch ATB 10x42, but still produces the same brightness and clarity. Therefore, wouldn't it be the better buy? The retail price of the Zeiss 10x30 is somewhere in the neighborhood of $540-$640. If there is a site that sells them for $290, which is the price of the Monarch ATB, wouldn't that be a steal?

Let me know if you can come close to that price. Would love to purchase it from a fellow FM'er. Might even strike a friendship out of the deal. wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

Here is the run down on Ziess:

All authorized Ziess dealers must advertise at the same price or we risk losing our accounts. There are some people out there that sell grey market binoculars. These are optics that are usually purchased over seas and with help of exchange rates and pricing in other countries, these companies are able to sell at a lower price. These are 3rd party binoculars. Most grey market optics won't come with warranties, or you will have to send them to the original country for warranty. If you look online you will see horror stories about grey markets. They just aren’t a good idea when you are talking about high dollar optics.

I hope this helps

Nick is right in regards to grey market products.I bought a night vision scope from him at a very good price.

Last night while surfing the web on HSOList I saw some very good deals on a better night vision scope as far as range for way less money.I called and talked to Nick and asked him a few questions on why these scopes on HSOList were so cheap. He had me call ATN who makes quality night vision scopes and where my new one came from and the one on HSOList that was so cheap.

After talking to ATN and asking questions in regards to the product listed on HSOList,I learned that the scope on HSOList had no warranty even though the seller on HSOList stated that a warranty came with.

To make a long story a little shorter I ended up sending HSOList a report on his activities on thier page.

These scopes are valued at 3300.00 and you can get one for 500.00 or less.It looks like a ATN and new,but I dont know that it is.Also if I wanted a warranty I needed to send ATN a couple hundred dollars as the seller had NO warranty.

I learned today that there are better deals out there and are probably not as presented.Boy,am I glad I bought my scope and field glasses from Nick at Optics 4 Hunting.

These guys are a class act and you get what you pay for and at a pretty darn good price.

Nick,Thanks for all you did and for talking to me and sending me to ATN.All of my future optics purchases will be with you. smile.gif

Thank-You

Tom Hatlestad
