Check out what your property taxes are being used for. Ours went up 61% this year because our school district screwed up on coding an expense that the state gave us money for. The district had to pay it back, since it didn't show that we used it for the intended purpose. The governor can't be blamed for "accounting errors" in our district.

How did the cost of oil and filter for a yamaha 150 go to property taxes? Thats stuff for the political forum guys.

As far as the cost of oil and filter for my yamaha its well worth it to me. I get thousands of dollars in fun and enjoyment out of that money. Expensive? Yes it is but well worth it to me.

I have spent way more money in a bar in 1 night only to pee it down the drain. grin.gif

I just think it is funny that you can buy a $50,000.00 Cadilac and buy 2 filters when they are on sale for $5.00 bucks. They just have the fisherman over the barrel because they have the manufacturing rights for the filters. I talked to the shop where I bought mine and he said a guy used a Fram on his and burnt it up. I know what you mean about spending in the bar, a guy doesn't even think about that at the time. You just get home and say, O, I must have had fun. grin.gif

I use Amsoil filters in my Yamaha and have had no problems. Im not saying you should do the same but they have worked fine for 2 years with me. As far as filters go I believe they are pretty much the same. I cut open 1 old yamaha and 1 old Amsoil and saw no visible difference that would cause me to worry.

I think its always funny that people will go out and buy at $10-15,000 boat and then complain about $50 in maintenence.

If 50 bucks reeally gets your undies in a bundle then maybe owning a boat isn't the best idea. Should save you lots of moeny if you get rid of it.

I think the point is why can you buy auto oil for $1-2 dollars a quart and the oil for the boat is $5 a quart. I can't imagine there is a additive that would add $3 a quart.

I think my oil filter was $12 and I wondered the same thing. I think we just have to shop around a bit.

it probably also has something to do with supply and demand and market share. There are ALOT more cars out there then boats. There are also more parts companies in the auto industry trying to vie for a piece of market share than that of the marine industry. The industry could also be considered specialty, and therefore try to get away with charging more. Finally someone mentioned in an earlier post about rights to make parts in the marine industry; that probably comes in to play quite a bit.

just my thought on the subject...
