NFL Players are starting to get to me

Sounds like this is going to become the norm of NFL players today.

04/05 11:21 Colts: Harper unhappy with contract

THE NEWS

Cornerback Nick Harper is skipping the team's voluntary offseason workouts because he's dissatisfied with his $1 million contract for the coming season. "Something's got to give, 'cause I'm not happy," Harper told the Indianapolis Star. "They know they've got a starting corner dirt cheap. If they can't give me the money I deserve, release me and somebody else will."

Its a product of no garunteed contracts and bad advice from agents. Players feel like they need to hold out to get the money becuase if they get hurt thats the end of the money. In baseball if you get hurt you still get part of your contract atleast.

I can see the understand the issue of guarenteed contracts, especially when you compare them to other leagues, but still I don't think the NFL players have a gripe with it. If it were that big of a deal, then the NFLPA should be making this an issue during their collective bargaining sessions. They just went through it and just like other times before the issue was not addressed. I realize, that player contracts in the NFL can be a 1 way street, but if the players need to address the issue with their union. Apart from that, they need to accept and carry out the contracts they sign.

Funny how you always hear these guys talk about getting underpaid but if they got benched and became overpaid back-ups they wouldn't say a thing. They should just sign one year contracts!!!!!!!!!!

grin.gifMy 2 cents, these sports players shouldn't make near as much as they do. There should be a realistic salary cap in all sports. Who the heck needs the kind of money they make. Granite they bring in a ton of dow but we should put all that other money into the states they are playing fors Police, schools, fire fighters, medical research, children without families, roads, ect... you know the things that matter. I would much rather see this than watch the players waste it on a new 300,000 sport cars, party boats, lawyer fees for beating there wives/fans/each other on the court. Had to throw that last part in there. But then this is just my opinion. Everyone is intitled to their own. smile.gif

Yeah, its the classic catch 20-22. Nobody wants to pay these social losers but if your team doesn't some other team will and nobody wants thier team to lose. I just make a personal vow to not go to the games but not become really upset when they lose, remember its just a game.

And besides, I still have my fantasy team(s). blush.gifgrin.gif

The thing that the NFL needs to realize is that thier game isn't that great and the driving forces behind the popularity of football is Fantasy Football and picking games.

Yeah some country's tried that once..... its called communism!!! These teams are privately owned, (funny how it dont work like that for "there" stadiums but thats a different issue) Why should there be a salary cap? The money if not paid to the players will never go to the community, it goes to the owners, if you dont like the system dont go to there games, dont buy there apperal, and dont watch em on TV. Its pretty simple, its called capitalism, and as long as the public is willing to pay $100+ dollars a ticket and $100+ for a jersey, the players AND the Owners are gonna be rich. If you wanted the money to go to the state, the state should have bought the team from Red Mccombs..............

Just my 2 cents

the only problem I have with the renegociation threats and holdouts and Etc is that the owners brought this upon them selves and now they complain about it. If you sign an guy to a 5-7 deal and pay him for 3 but then decide to cut him so his cap number can be less then Don't offer him a 5-7 yr contract. They cut veterans all the time and get no dump for not honoring contracts but players get ripped for wanting more money. They all make too much but that is the market rate now, like it was posted before dont watch or buy or publisize sports and their value will go down along with their salaries. Look at the money pro fishermen can win and then they have sponsors on top of that!

I say boo-flippin'-whoo to these bozos who would complain about getting paid $1 million for playing a game. I am with Jiggling Bob, the money could be spent on more important things. I think the players and owners need to have a salary cap, and then make the ticket prices, hotdogs, beer, pretzels and sodas more reasonable so people can go to the games with their families and not have to take out a second mortgage to do so.

I used to watch the games religiously. After I got my labs I just can't justify sitting inside on nice fall days and I am not dissapointed that I am missing the games.
