25.1 lb largemouth bass caught

tightlines

Recommended Posts

Hey Hanson,

When they caught the fish the first time the fish weighed about 24 lbs. right out of the water with a portable scale. They had to wait quite a while to get a "certified" scale to the fish. During that time the fish was spewing out eggs and had lost alot of weight. I dont know how long it took them to weight it this time but this fish has been BIG for a long time. I can't imagine the age of the fish, 15+?

It is not uncommon to catch 8-10lb bass in that lake also.

I grew up in CA and fished dixion every weekend, mainly for trout and catfish but every now and then we would go bass fishing and catch some nice pigs. Biggest one we boated weighed just over 12lbs.

It looks like that fish swallowed an 8-10 pound bass grin.gif

No matter how you look at it, that bass is an incredible fish, and I congratulate him on his catch. Someday I can only hope to catch a 10-pounder smile.gif

They were talking about this on the Joe Soucheray show yesterday afternoon. Man, what a fish. They reported that this fish has possibly been caught at least three times, and released. It evidently has a distinctive mark on a gill plate. The gentleman that caught this fish also reported it was foul hooked, so any resulting record would probably be denied.

So do you guys think he should be given the certified record if the scale checks out, even though it was foul hooked? I think they should as long as everything is verified to be true. These guys sound like a couple of up standing kinda sportsman.

This is going to be a very tough decision on the record book keepers. The fish was weighed but never taken to a certified scale to be weighed. That may be enough to keep it off alone. The fish being foul hooked will just throw up another controversy. I'm not quite sure that this guy will get the record just because the fish was released before it was weighed on the certified scale. It's obviously a hog over 20 pounds from the picture, but the guidelines weren't really followed for a record.

to be a world record it has to be a certified scale and must be witnessed by a co. this fish

cannot be a world record because those two rules are not open to interpretation. now the

foul-hooking may just be something that can be ruled on because it sounds like that only

refurs to snagging a fish. exceptions to rules void the rules themselves.

that being said...... holy cow what a fish! man o man there are not to many of those

around. what great true sportsman for returning the fish but i would bet they are having

some second thoughts on that.....

so..... anyone up for a road trip......

San Diego paper article says they are not submitting the application for the record. They will go back and catch her in the future and be 100% legit.

I like these guys, you can tell they have values and ethics.

mtreno....I predict it'll be caught by the guy Chigger in the BASS video!

I'm already working on a business trip to San Diego!! grin.gif

Unfortunatly, I think that lake will more than likely nothing but boats if it already isn't. Everyone will want to hook it and try for the record. These guys are up-standing sportsman for the way they handled the entire thing. I hope they get the chance to re-catch it before someone else does.

I don't think that can happen. The lake is within a park. No private boats allowed. You can only use rented rowboats with trolling motors. Once all the boats are rented you are s.o.l. if you want on the lake.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
