Monster Walleyes?

Good topic! This has been the chat between friends all winter.

I cannot break the 21" mark this year. It's been good numbers wise for fish 14-17" from far north to south, but the trophies have completely eluded me.

My wife did catch a dandy and she's in the lead for 2006 so far. smirk.gif

I'm on the other side of the fence from you Matt. Chase walleyes til the season closes....then panfish thereafter. I have my priorities straight. tongue.gif LOL

Yes it's true Chuck. Usually after the season closes I'll hook into a monster walleye or bass while jigging for pannies. I can't catch them when I want to, but it never fails come March, they always want to bite then when I'm going after late ice gills. It's like they know the season is done and they're just playing with us grin.gif

25 and a 28 on Gull earlier in the season and then a 30"er on Whitefish Christmas day! I'd post a pic or two if I could figure out how to get em online. dial-up sucks.

Yes, there was one time I went for crappies....that was that good day of filling on walleyes, perch and we needed panfish to make it the ultimate multi-species day. grin.gif

However, I finally redeemed myself on Friday night! Caught on my trusty 1/8 oz Glo Blue Go Devil.

She was released, of course.

Yeah photos are tough to gauge the size of a fish... And just by seeing this fish in the hole and out of the ice, it was tough for me to tell just how big this girl was. Right away, I was thinking 30 incher or more as the fish had a huge girth on her. Like nothing I have seen on a walleye before.

Put the tape on her, and she measured 28 inches. Where I was like, there is no way. So we measured again at 28".

I have no exact weight on her, as I didnt have a scale. But just from the size of the fish, I would say she definately surpassed the 10lb mark easily, where she might have even went 11lbs. Extrodinary for a 28" fish, I will probably never see a girth and the depth a fish like this again. The width of this fish's back along with her bulging stomach blacked out a 9 inch hole!!! blush.gif Scott and I just shook our heads at how freaking thick and deep she carried weight from her head to her anal fin. Unbelievable and a fish of a lifetime for me!!!

Talking to several guides and seeing several photos in this area, a 30 to 31 inch fish this time of year on LBDN are pushing 12lbs or more. blush.gif Yikes!!!!!!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
