Angel Eye Jr.'s

Recommended Posts

I got to use the Angle Eye Juniors up on Lake of the Woods. I was in current and that lure really flutters around nice. Tipped with a whole shiner or just a head. This lure produced about 90 percent of the fish I caught. My favorite was the gold or gold and red. Definatley a killer for Walleyes!

I agree Dan, the gold Angel Eye is one outstanding jigging spoon, and it's no surprise to me that you landed a fair share of fish on LOW with it. Gold has always been one of my top producers up there for walleye, pike, perch, and yes, eelpout too smile.gif

What I like the best about the Angel Eye is that it can incorporate both aggressive and finesse actions. Use it for its lightweight, flutter appeal to work over a wary pod of walleye, or pump and dance it for cruising fish. It's a win-win presentation if you ask me...

I also agree with you guys. The angel eyes Jr. is also my go to bait this season for eyes and it's been grrrrreat. I use the glo green, and glo red the most. I've caught eyes, perches, and even craps. Just so you guys know, this year is my first year ice fishing. At first I was skeptical about these spoons but when I bought one I tried them out and was catching fish, I was very impress with them. Now I got about 8 of them in my tackle and wouldn't go ice fishing without them.

Dan is right on the money. We were sitting in my shack on Red and I said he'd want to tie on one of his hammered gold AE Jr's for Lake of the Woods in the morning. It was producing very well although I think Dan was also crushing them on the pink & white AE Jr. as well. I remember at least 4 that morning that all came in a row on that lure.

I've also got to plug the AE Jr. for Sturgeon fishing up there. That little 42 incher I caught hit my perch colored AE Jr. with an emerald shiner minnow hooked below the dorsal.

Is there a place where you can go and get just 1 or 2 of these jigs to try them out.

I always want to try new jigs but I don't want to buy a big pack for $25 just yet.

Any stores? Or websites that sell individuals?

ps~I haven't looked real hard for them in stores maybe I am just not seeing them right in front of my face.

Thanks

nofishfisherman- They are all over the place. If your looking in the cities you can find a great selection at Thorne Brothers. HOwever I have seen them at Gander Mtn, and even some Holiday Gas stations. Once you do buy a couple.. you will be back to buy the big pack that FM sells!

Anyone from the St. Cloud area know where these are on the shelves? I have not seen Angel Eye Jr.'s or Go-Devils at Gander, Mills, Scheels. I have seen the larger Angel Eye but not the junior size.

If you know where they're at please post, and Thanks!

All those places normally carry the Jrs as well as the regular version. I'm guessing they may be out. Another place I've seen them is at the Tacklebox Bait shop. They also carry various sizes of the go devils.

Thanks Borch. I've been watching these stores but did not see the AE Jr. on the shelves at all this season. Maybe lousy timing on my part. I'll check out the bait shop you mentioned.

I am aware that they are for sale here at FM as Rick pointed out above. I however, want to try a AE Jr. or Go-Devil before I feel the need to order a dozen. Perhaps in the future a sampler pack could be offered.

nofishfisherman-

I'm willing to bet the ones you got are the AE Jr's.

I was trying to find a photo I posted of the size comparison between the 2 but will have to keep digging. The Jr. is about 1-1/2 inches long or so where the Angel Eye Minnow is around 3 inches long.

One small bit of confusion is that both JB Lures and Scenic Tackle sell the Angel Eye Jrs. I know that Gander Mt. carries the JB Lures Angel Eye but I have never seen the Scenic Tackle packaging of the Angel Eye Jr. at Gander in the cities.

Regardless, they are the exact same lure from each company and one of my favorites!

You are correct the one I bought was about an inch and a half long. I don't think the package said it was a JR. I was looking for the scenic tackle packaging but did end up finding the JB lures packaging.

But anyways we'll give it a go. I hope it works as well as I hear. If it does Saturday should be fun.

I will be fishing the northwest side of Mille Lacs, probably in the deeper water off the reef near Myr Mar.

Won't be driving out and no ATV to use so I will be hoofing it from shore.

That should be the only lure you'll need on Mille Lacs. What color(s)did you pick up?

I like to use the AE Jrs tipped with a minnow head or tipped with 3-4 colored EuroLarvae. Perch absolutely love this presentation and I'd think you'd be able to get into some of them jumbos on Mille Lacs right now.

Try to let the AE Jr flutter down to the bottom on as slack a line as you can give it. What happens is the lure will flutter waaayyyy out to the side of your hole. In deeper water, 10' out to the side is pretty easy. You can then hop the lure back on the bottom to directly under your hole. Sometimes, the fish love that presentation.

If not, standard jigging and shaking with occasionally bouncing it off the bottom will do the trick.

Good Luck to ya!

Is the JB brand and the Scenic brand the same jig, just different packaging? I always thought so till a clerk at the store told me they were not the same quality, weight, action, ect. Now I am confused. We do have the JB around here but not the scenic. Any educated advice?

Used the angel eye jr. for the first time today on Mille lacs.

Not much luck with it. IT brought in a few perch as seen on the Aqua Vu. but the only walleye I could bring in was on a 1/4 ounce black and orange jig tipped with a fat head.

I will give it more of a go next time.

In the pack of regular AE jr. is that the hammered gold? or flat gold? I have not had any luck with them using them and heading up to Mille Lacs in a few weeks so thinking about getting them for the trip. What colors are best up there?

The Gold and the Gold/red are hammered gold.

They do indeed bring in walleyes in Mille lacs. The picture of the walleye you see under the Angel Eye Jrs was caught on Mille lacs using them. Many more were caught that way as well. That one was caught on the rocks right next to Mac's Twin Bay.

All of the colors in the regular pack work well on Mille Lacs. Remember to let it fall quickly and it will dart off to the side. Slowly bring it/hop it back under your holes.

Bang the bottom a couple times and then dart it up like a dying minnow and let it free fall down to between 2 feet off bottom and close to bottom. Repeat the dying minnow pattern after pause. Vary length of dart and drop as well as length of pause. When a fish comes close dont be afraid to barely jiggle it.

Practice in the water where you can see how it looks doing the above and you will see quickly how effective it can be when presented properly.

Remember a wounded/dying minnow tends to dart up and then slide down to the side. The Angel Eye Jr does a nice job of mimicking that and attracting fish. The jiggling closes the deal on a lot of those fish.

Thanks Rick. I have tried what you have described but have had the issues of loosing my minnow and not much luck with the minnow head alone on them. is there a particular for night? versus day? maybe will fill up the garbage can and practice.

thanks and this sight is awesome. I have been on it for a few years, but forgot my password and lost the original log in I had as "broncosguy".
