How much has traffic increased over last year?

I am about to flip a switch with a fishing group I work with that would give this link to about 250 Women Anglers.

I don't want to do that til the upgrades happen. (You know scar new users with the slowness issues.

We are up in overall traffic. We set a new attendance record on December 22 and we remain pretty steady despite the spike on the 22nd. Steady as in very heavy traffic. Our current server and server company can't handle it so we are going to outsource the additional load. That's why there has been a delay. Better to go slow and make relatively certain we're getting what we need with reliability.

So don't count your chickens yet on the speed being good. We're working on it and streamlined the forum software. We exceeded our bandwidth starting on Christmas day. We've never even come close to that and certainly didn't expect it at this time.

We are working on two things. Upgrading our server to a second server and streamlining the forums. MySQL is being heavily drawn on and is processor and bandwidth intensive.

It is problematic in that we don't want the site to go down and we need to time it so there is as little disruption as possible and there will be some.

Especially for those who have ISPs that update their DNS entries slowly. We will let you know when we have switched. Streamlining will be occuring regularly in the meantime.

you must be an ultra fisherman cause most of the regular fishermen that i know includeing me dont know what a MYSQL or a DNS for that matter i do know what an isp is so i aind all dumb heheheh way to go keep up the good work and GO FM GO

We've tweaked the site speed for some improvement and hope to have the speed issue fixed very soon now.

Forum traffic is VERY high right now.

Around a 40% increase over last year.

Computer words and their meaning:

"ISP" - those companies that let you get on the internet, and put your web sites on the internet.

"DNS" - the internet's address book - how "fishingminnesota.com" is linked to a specific computer.

"MySQL" - a program that keeps track of stuff.

"Geek" - a person who knows what those things mean.....

Hey, I just thought of something.... more traffic = more fishing reports = MORE FISH!

I have been having a hard time connecting and when I do it takes forever do down load each time I click. If you can get online before 4pm its not too bad but after that its hit and miss.

I have had hit and miss loading also. It seems I can get the first couple threads to load fast, then its like my computer hits a brick wall trying to access the fourth or fifth thread. It is SLOWLY starting to cool down outside again and i expect forum traffic will slow a little once people can get back out on safe ice again!

I experience the same thing as GVG. I jump on the site and the first 5-10 threads open great, very fast - and then it's a hit and miss brick wall. Some threads o.k, others take several minutes to open or won't open at all.

I'm still noticing that it is taking forever to get into the forums. Anywhere from 15-30 seconds just to get into the forums at times. I'm on a high speed cable modem at 3 megabits up and 15 down. Should be able to scream. I have noticed it got a little better but a little more tweaking may be in order. Of course it may be that I'm online when everyone else is online which will slow me down so this may be on my end as well. Still glad to be a part of the FM family. keep up the good work.

I'm glad it's not just me. I have the exact problems that you guys have been experienceing. I thought that this problem was fixed allready but I guess not yet.

Just got off the phone with Rick and he's still working on getting both servers working. So far it's helped a lot to speed things up. Hang in there it won't be long!
