Marcum LX-5 True Color and other features

Recommended Posts

We've all seen the sales brochures but, I thought I'd try and capture the True Colors of the LX-5 in real time, along with some other features of the LX-5. A professional could capture the colors better, I'm sure, but even from these amateur shots, the colors really do stand out plus, note how fine the resolution is on the LX-5.

The dual-beam transducer (NBT) and SuperFine Line (SFL)features are activated right from the keypad.

Another LX-5 feature addition not mentioned in other threads is that the LX-5 transducer is held securely in its own padded, recessed area in the electronics shuttle.

Why don't they include a simple LCD Digital depth indication on these units ? Neither Vex or Marcum has it as far as I know. This would be very nice when using the unit in Open water as you wouldn't have to see what scale you are on and do the math... Hate to think too much while fishing!

The only problem I'm having with these units is trying to locate one. crazy.gif I talked to Marcums costumer service this morning and the LX-5 should be on the shelves at most major sporting good stores in the next week or so.

I haven't checked Joe's or Capra's yet, but I'm almost positive I'm picking up one of these units.

Is the dual-beam transducer worth the extra money?

Sportsman Warehouse has them. Dick's in Bloomington should have them any day.

Metrojoe:

Is the dual-beam ducer worth the money? Good question.

Depends on what you fish for. Any deep water applications, or lakes with steep structure, I would like the option to switch over to the other ducer. Lake trout on Superior or inland lakes, even crappies over deep water, and walleyes on drop offs.....all would be good scenarios where the extra ducer would be handy, among others.

For me, the selling point was that I got the dual-beam ducer, ALONG WITH the other features in the LX-5. The extra interference rejection, more power, better resolution, and my favorite, the super-fine-line. Auto zoom is an upgrade in my opinion, esp. when you can zoom into any part of the water colomn. However, being able to zoom without "splitting" your screen, is an upgrade to an upgrade in my opinion.

I just picked mine up, and I'll echo what Dave said on the colors, very nice. If there's one in store, and not turned on, you can run a simulation mode to show you what the colors look like in a fishing situation. Hold down the "ZM" or zoom key while you turn it on, and the unit automatically goes into simulation mode. As you'll see, the simulation mode is in super-fine-line. I think you'll be impressed.

Try it out!!!

I recently got my hands on the new LX-5 and I was dying to try it out, so I made an effort to get on the lake. I can honestly say that this is the most crisp, clear and overall remarkable flasher I have ever used.

Those pictures Dave placed on this post are great. When on the water, and fish are on the bottom or suspended, there is a noticable improvement in overall colors and clarity on the screen.

I also toyed with the 8 degree dual beam and that was remarkable also. It was extremely clear, and the target seperation is incredible in that mode. If only I could see what was on the bottom of the lake, it was almost like a small weed was present in the deep water, and I could see it very clearly in 8 degree mode.

Excellent job Marcum Technologies!

I'll be giving mine the first run this weekend and can't wait to see it in action. I was really surprised at the crispness of the display along with the intensity while playing with it in the house. It should be a valuable asset to the fishing toolbox.

Ya I went a little nuts this past month or so. I also picked up a Marcum VS500 used from a fellow FMer. crazy.gif

I just have to throw everything in the sled and load it up in the pick-up. Is Dan planning to head out tomorrow?.....I think I'm feeling a little sick "cough...cough" I might not be well enough for work tomorrow. I'm gonna have to call around and see what's up with everyone.

Count me in for Saturday.

I bought one at the ice fishing show in St. Paul. i used it for the first time this weekend. i love it. but!!! I went out with a fully charged battery, and it was down to 20% when I came off the Ice. i was only on the ice for about 8 hours.

Has anyone else noticed considerable amount of battery use?

What did the DCS 100 read after you got home or when it was warmed back up to room temp? As a MarCum user I tell people that the DCS reads properly best at room temperature, not under load. I have fished my LX-3 with 0% showing on the DCS for up to two 2 hours and after I got home or after an extended ride it warmed back up on the front passenger floor on my caravan to 40% and that was after 12 - 13 hours of fishing. Remember batteries accept charging better at room temperature so after you come home from fishing I generally wait an hour or so before I plug the DCS charger in. Yes I would say what your describing is normal.

I noticed the same thing when I took mine out for the first time also. By early afternoon it was down to 30%. I did run it the rest of the day without any problem.

Just make sure you don't plug your LX-5 charger into your OVS camera. I fried a battery and the new charger already. frown.gif
