JIvers
After the Vikings lose to the Giants in overtime, Paul Edinger should be cut as soon as he reaches the locker room. If he had not missed both his field goal attempts, the Giants would not have just tied the game. Yeah, it's cool that Edinger won the game against the Packers, but you have to make thirty-yard field goals too, and Edinger misses way too many of them. JIvers
Roughly one minute after my original post, Edinger put the Vikings up by three with eleven seconds left. This is probably a record for Most Short-sighted Original Post Ever on anyone's part. I guess I'll take a small serving of crow. Still, if Edinger had made one of the two earlier field goal attempts, there would have been less pressure to make the game-winning kick. I like the game-winning kicks, but we need a kicker who is more consistent.
Bobby Bass
Missed one kick and the other was blocked. What is he suppose to be on the line blocking for his own kicks? Give the guy a break he now has two winning kicks...
JIvers
Factor in the three missed kicks against Chicago (who cut him for just this reason) and you have a kicker who can't be counted on.
Quickstrike
then who's going to take his place? There's not an abundance of good kickers floating around right now.
Bobby Bass
so Just who do you replace him with? you of course do have a better kicker who is out there not playing for anyone else to replace him with right? Gee Bennet fumbled, again.. replace him.. Johnson was sacked 4 times, replace him. Sharper only had 3 int's replace him. This is not fantasy football you actually have to sometimes play with the players you have. I think that is why they call it a game. If everyone did everything right then who would watch? Just a small venting here. To me that was one of the reason I watched the game to the very end cuz I like most people were waiting for them to find a way to lose and when they won on a field goal which they had to have and which the offense had to put together a drive when it counted.. To me this was a sign of life from this football team..A lot of things have to come together for a kick to be good you just see the foot hit the ball.. JIvers
There are other kickers out there--Dallas did the right thing when they booted Cortez, for instance. Missing two and three field goals a game as Edinger does is ridiculous and unacceptable. And Bennett should be benched for putting the ball on the ground again. Bobby Bass
Edinger is 13 for 18 for the season that does not add up to two to three misses a game. he is 7-7 under 30yds 1-4 under 40yds 3-3 under 50yds and 2-4 over 50 with two final second winning kicks and 11 for 11 extra points. And just who would you take for him again? I would have like to see Moore with a few carries but I can see with a bad hand why Bennet got the carries. JIvers
Minor-league soccer players are a dime a dozen--run some in and hold tryouts. Kickers are being paid big bucks to do one thing--kick. When they can't do that there is a problem. If you want to accept and excuse mediocrity and sloppy play, that's your right. nofishfisherman
A soccer player insn't going to come in mid season and learn to kick field goals at a better then 66% sucess rate. Which is where Edinger is.Those of you that say the vikes should cut anyone who had a bad game just aren't realistic. Next time you have a bad day at work I hope your boss gives you the boot as well. I am sure there is someone better then you floating around the unemployment line.Who are you going to replace Edinger with? There is no one out there that is going to be any better. If it is so easy to go kick field goals I recommend you go learn to kick them, I will look so see you on the vikings sideline next season.
Jim Uran
Come on man it's a big improvement over last year and who would cut a guy that booted a last second game winning 56 yard FG a few weeks ago.
Bobby Bass
Hmmm another winning field goal....
nofishfisherman
I think the CUT EDINGER thread should be deleted now. If you ask me he's worth his weight in gold. Anyone who gives the Vikes two wins over the Pack in one year is alright by me.
ChuckN
The last three wins.... He's fine by me.
Mudcutter
crazy to cut a guy who is MR.Clutch. When it comes down to it,, I see ED beating the Bears on a last sec FG to give the VIkes the DIV. The guy is a big situation kicker, not great, but GETS THE JOB DONE!!!!!VIkes sweep the PACK,,, sweetness!!!!!, and 3 in a ROW!!!!!and send the pack on a misery laden 2-3 years of rebuilding. Can you say Aaron Rodgers in 2 years?? Oh my!!I can say pack are destined for a record of 4-12, and that might be the best finish in the next 3 years. The pack is back,,, WAY BACK!!!! M.T. Bucket
Quote: I see ED beating the Bears on a last sec FG to give the VIkes the DIV. Has the NFL agreed to let each Vikings win count as two wins from here on out?
JIvers
Again, the Vikings would have been in better position to beat the Bears the first time around if Edinger had not missed THREE kicks, none of which were from long distance. lots of luck
Quote:Again, the Vikings would have been in better position to beat the Bears the first time around if Edinger had not missed THREE kicks, none of which were from long distance. You might want to revisit that game via tape. Better position to beat the Bears? What was the final score again? Wasn't there a snap/hold issue on one of those attempts? I don't think Edinger was the reason for the loss in that game. Edinger is the least of the Vikes problems.

Maybe we can sign Cundiff when Parcells cuts him this week after blowing the game on Thanksgivng?Or better yet, maybe we could get Jay Feely (supposedly one of the best kickers in the game) when the Giants cut him after missing 3 potential game winners @ Seattle? Give me a break, there aren't too many pro-bowl kickers available out there, I'm just happy we have a guy in Edinger that makes kicks in the clutch & WINS GAMES.
