Question

THE OTHER DAY I GET TO WORK and get out of my truck and there is this nasty somethings burning hot kind of smell coming from somewhere underneath the truck. I crawl under and see nothing long story short after a couple daysI take it to the dealer and have them look at it and they tell me that a mouse has packed my muffler full of dog food!

If your truck or car sits around in the woods for a long time watch out for an air cleaner full of stuff. Happens around here all the time. If you let a vehicle stand for a couple months out in the country some place take steps to block off the air intakes. Make sure you put a piece of tape or some reminder of some kind on the hood though so you don't forget. I used to find my LARGE air cleaner on the truck filled with stuff deposited by chipmunks.

There was recently something in the news about a twin cities woman who started her car and thought the engine was going to explode. She shut it down and opened the hood and found that suirrels had almost filled the space in the engine compartment with acorns. She cleaned them out and the squirrels did it twice more. Hers was the only car they were doing it to. No other ones were being touched.

We got back from a camping trip one time and the dang dog kept sitting under the RV with her nose just about stuck in the tube for the trailer hitch. Evertime she got out she sat there sniffing and staring at that stupid tube, she looked about as stupid they come. Well after a while my curiosity got the best of me and I went over with a flash light and found that a mouse had a litter or little ones in the tube. So put the dog on the chain and grabbed the hose and flushed the little buggers out. Never forget just how dumb that dog looked sitting under there for hours crazy.gif

Brought one of the cars to get the oil changed and the guys said that there was dog food stuffed in the air cleaner. I have a black walnut tree in the yard, one year I noticed that there weren't too many walnuts on the ground, later I opened the trunk of an old car sitting in the yard and it was packed full of walnuts.

My wife's van started to smell bad when the heater was turned on so we brought it to a mechanic and he removed all of the heating vents from under the dash and got over 2 1/2 gallon buckets of dog food out of it. 3 weeks later it happened again with the same result ($1000 in labor later) all the vents had to be covered with heavy wire mesh and the plastic heating vents had to bew washed and soaked to get the smell of mouse urine and eau de dead mouse out of it. We immediately got a cat and within 2 days there were 8 mice laying dead on the front deck...no more dog food smell in the van.

A couple weeks ago, I was pulling my waders on for a morning duck hunt. They had been laying across some rough cut lumber in my garage. Something felt funny and slippery in the feet, so I pulled them back off, and shook the legs to get the debris out. Each foot had a bunch of pumpkin seeds from a pumpkin that my daughter and I had carved the week before. The mice had taken them out of the garbage. LOL.

Last weekend I found more pumpkin seeds lodged in the fingers of a leather pair of gloves.

There were pics on the internet a couple months ago of a snake that looked like a 6 to 8 foot boa/python that crawled onto the engine block for warmth and ended up exploding under the hood several miles down the road! It was disgusting!!

Personally, I've only had the acorns and dog food in the air intakes! grin.gif

Went to change the air filter in my truck this spring and found a mouse carcass and a cache of seeds and grass clippings in the filter encasement. Weird thing is I drive the vehicle every day so I'm still at a loss as to how the little guy did it! One way or another his luck ran out.

Theweird thing is that I drive this truck everyday 70 miles round trip and I have a suburban that sits in the same garage everyday all day and they havent touched that. The bill to have them cut the muffler off and empty it out the best they could came to 115.00 bucks and the kicker is they couldnt get all out. The alternative was to have them put on a new one that would have cost me over 400.00 bucks, and this was at the dealer .

Okay, here's another little critter story. We ran out of gas at our cabin. The tank had just been filled. Tank proved to be empty when inspected by gas guys. They figured a leak somewhere in line. Dug up part of line. A pocket gopher had chewed through the gas line...darndest thing I ever saw. It cost me ANOTHER $575 to refill the tank and $100 for the inspection and line repair.

I am no more Mr. Nice Guy when it comest to ppocket gophers.

A few years ago about this time I went to fire up the furnace. It would't stay on. Furnace guy came out, went downstairs for a few minutes. He came up and chewed me out for not changing the filter. On his way out he said besides the filter you had squirrels in there. I snickered and made a mental note to always put a new filter in before I have the furnace guy out. About 4 days later I noticed a smell from the basement. Sure enough behind the furnace I laugh.gif located a pile of red squirrels. They had gotten into the fresh air intake and caused the furnace to choke out. I got the feeling the furnace guy was angry with me I just didn't know that because I did not change the filter the poor little mepps spinner wanna bees didn't make it. The same year I had a hen mallard come down the chimney.I will save that for later.
