Aquaman01
Nice job, Mark! I always thought the next SR LM would come out of Minnetonka, or Prior or some other big body of water. Goes to show ya, I guess. Congrats on the sponsorship possibilities - I hope you play & land them as well as that fish!

Guest
I was thinking of doing some duck/goose hunting out there pretty soon before I heard of this.. I could see an entire row of fishermen fishing my decoys like structure.. that has happened to me at Whaletail in the past.

Deitz Dittrich
BRK- you are probably quite correct!.. I would be willing to bet quite a few lakes have a state record in it...
rappin jack
Yes, a twenty-six and a half. I caught it at night in the same spot the old record was caught (with-in 50 feet)

walleyedan
Congratulations Mark!! I fished that lake a few times back when I was in E.P.. Even then it had monsters in it!!! I remember fishing the cattails with big, black rubber worms. We caught some big ones and had some vicious hits and misses. I have never forgotten about it. Anybody know how long a Minnesota bass can live? Great to see a avid fisherman catch it!!Have a good weekend,Walleyedan
ZOKU
I saw this in last week's newspaper... insane. I fish Auburn pretty regularly since I live just a few miles down the road. I don't have a boat so I'm regulated to the dock... but still, I've done fairly well. Nothing quite like that pig... but it has still proven to be a fairly productive lake.Maybe I missed something, but exactly how was the state record "shattered"??? The newspaper that I have saved dated Tues., Oct. 4, 2005 from the Star Tribune states the previous state record largemouth bass caught in 1994 weighed in at 8lbs. 12.75oz... the one just caught recently that broke the record weighed in at 8lbs. 15oz. Not trying to be a smart (Contact US Regarding This Word)... just wanting to know if the newspaper I have has some incorrect information on it? I wouldn't exactly say that the state record was "shattered", IMO.
Keith_MN
ZOKU, I think it comes from bad information, as in not checking your facts. The 10 o'clock news that evening (and I wish I could remember which channel it was) displayed on the screen that the old record was 5 lbs 12.5 oz. And they were using terms similar to the word "shattered" in their report. They actually had a fairly lengthy report on the "new" record fish, so it was really disappointing to see such a significant error in the facts they were reporting. eyechaser99
I seen that too on channel 4 with Don Shelby. Hope they can keep the fish alive so we can see it in the new Cabelas tank.
fisherman
Startribune reported that the Record fish has died in the Linders tank in Brainerd. Here's the link.http://startribune.com/stories/767/5661981.html
vern
Wow, that's a real bummer. I still think it's cool that he tried to keep that fish alive.

Captain B.R.K
I had asked the question before if it was legal for the guy to transport a live fish. Seems he had a permit from the DNR to move the fish to one location, but instead went to another. Now the DNR has it's neck out over this bass.. What a mottled mess! Mark Christianson
So why would the DNR have their neck out over this bass??? IF the fish was moved illegally in any way, it aint their fault. And where are people coming up with the thought that anything was done illegal anyway?
Captain B.R.K
From what I read on the net, the DNR had given a permit to allow him to transport the fish to the new Cabela's store in Rogers. Instead of going to Rogers, he took the fish to Brainerd. So the DNR issued a permit, I don't know if it was to be hush, hush, but then the fish dies and DNR's plan backfires on them.As quoted on page 18 in the2005 Minnesota Fishing Regulations handbook,•All fish must be killed before transportation. This does not apply to minnows.• Fish prepared for transportation, shipment, or storage are defined as follows: Undressed fish must have heads, tails, fins, and skin intact. Entrails, gills, and scales may be removed. Dressed fish may have heads and scales or skin removed, in addition to gills and entrails.Fillets are fish flesh, excluding cheeks, that have been removed from a fish. Scales or skin may be removed or intact. • It is illegal for anglers to transport live fish, including in livewells of trailered boats, except for display in a home aquarium under the following conditions: – Game fish purchased from an authorized licensee t transported with the necessary documents (such as a sales receipt). – Anglers 16 or under may transport legally caught largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass, black crappie, white crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed, green sunfish, orange spotted sunfish, and black, yellow, and brown bullhead. No more than four of each species may be transported at any one time, and any individual fish can be no longer than 10 inches. At no time may water from infested waters be transported. That's where I'm coming up with this fish being illegally transported.
Mark Christianson
Problem number 1: Quote:From what I read on the net, the DNR had given a permit to allow him to transport the fish to the new Cabela's store in Rogers. Don't believe everything you read on the net. Again, why is it the DNR's "neck" IF there was a law broken? People are given permits and permission to do things all the time. If the person that received the permit breaks the law, its his problem. Not the entity that gave them the permit. I have some very close friends in the DNR and I will stand firmly with them in defense of what they do. This was not some formulated plan by the DNR that went south. Good grief. Captain B.R.K
Good grief?!?!? Giving you a bad time BB! I'm not trying to step or point fingers! I think the DNR does a good job for us here in Minnesota. Quote: People are given permits and permission to do things all the time. If the person that received the permit breaks the law, its his problem. Not the entity that gave them the permit. BUT now that he has broken the law, the DNR isn't going to enforce what they wrote on page 18??? They just can't be wishy-washy like that. I understand that we should be in awe over a record setting bass, but not at the expense of our laws.
Mark Christianson
AhhhhI see your point now.I thought you were blaming the division that granted permission to move the fish around. If something was done outside of the permit, then its clearly something that should be addressed on the enforcement side of the DNR if applicable.
