Sox Up 13

2001 Mariners went to the ALCS. The 1998 Yankees won he World Series (rundrave-good comparison). They also won a lot of regular season games. What's not to be proud of, let alone playing in a couple post season series? So if the Sox turn into the next 2001 Mariners, God bless them..........I've never seen my Sox in an LCS since the new playoff format came about, but I would sure take it if that's as far as they got. I would be happy to see them win one series. In fact, I would be happy to see playoff baseball period!!!!!!!!

Even if the Sox don't win it all, I will sure be happy as heck to be at every post season game if they get there. Do I hope the Sox are like the 2001 Mariners and win 116 games? Heck Yeah!!!! I'd love to witness an ALCS!!!!!! I'd sure be happy to be there.

Sounds like it's all or nothing for you Rubberneck. Maybe the Sox will be like the 2004 Cardinals, or the 2004 Yankees, or the 2003 Yankees, Braves, or Giants, or like the 2002 Yankees, Braves, or Angels, or like any other team that wins 100 games and not win it all.

The goal in baseball, Rubberneck, is to win as many games as possible during the regular season to give the team the ability to play in the post season. Once in, anything can happen. If a team can't get to the playoffs, then they can't win it all.

So if you want to compare the Sox to the 2001 Mariners, please, keep drawing your comparisons!!!!!!!!!!!!! That means I'll be watching playoff baseball sitting in a seat in US Cellular this October!!!!!!!!!

If we turn out to be the 2001 Mariners and win the division by 14 games, we might very well clinch the division in the Metrodome, Sunday, September 18.

I pray we're like the 2001 Mariners.

Rubberneck,

I forgot. I'm sure every Twins player will be pulling for the Sox if they get to the playoffs while chanting "Go White Sox" thru out the city streets of the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. They'll wear Sox caps, wave Sox banners, and have Sox playoff parties in the Metrodome locker room.

Just like all Sox players (except for one player apparently) and Sox fans ROOTED for the Twins in the playoffs last year. I'm pretty sure all the Sox players and fans were CRUSHED last year when the Twins were ousted. I know I didn't sleep for days. That's when I started taking anti-depressants.

Sox up 11 but playing a tough schedule the next few weeks. I know 11 games is alot. But we are talking the SOX. Great Pitching this year. But it will cool off agst the yanks and bsox. If the twins can get a streak going, I can see the the lead cut to 7 or 8. Thats still a big lead. But when the TWins start playing the Wsox again, a 7-8 game lead can be cut down to a 3-4 game lead pretty quickly. I might be a bit optimstic, but with 69 games left, I still see room for 4th Div title in a row.

GO TWINS!!!!!

Hey Sled,

Wouldn't it be 3 and out, or have they changed the first round to a single game? Just Axe'in!

Lucky that I did not get to see one pitch of today's game, I was golfing all day in a Chamber Outing...Shot a 78 so life is beautiful, even if we are ONLY 11 games up. Here is a bold prediction. I predict that the Sox will win the next four games, no doubt. Any Takers?

Wouldnt one and done refer to one round of the playoffs?

DOH!

Palos saw a little glitch in there giddy up against the Tigers and will try to rebound against the Red Sox. My Cards took two of three from Boston and the Yanks earlier this season at home. My Redbirds will try to pickup another victory today against the Brewers and then the weekend series with the cubbies. Any word on Kerry Wood I guess he left the game with shoulder tightness yesterday? Game one Friday night well feature Zambrano and Carpenter and I will be able to watch it on WGN at 8 p.m. John Rodriquez hit his first major league homerun for the Cards last night he's been a pleasant surprise filling in for Reggie Sanders 4 for 11 since being called up, good power from the left side. Rolen is still slumping at the dish.

Tim,

I'll try to watch alot of the series too. Not a make or break for the Cards, but I think it is for the Cubs and they need to sweep probably just for a wild-card chance.

Windy,

Darn, 78? That blows me away by at least a stroke a hole. Nice score. Now, on to that wager: I don't even know who the ChiSox are playing, but I will wager you our favorite burger at our favorite spot that they do not win the next 4 straight games.

Commanche,

You got every right in the world to be proud as heck of your team but I gotta say the goal in baseball is to win the World Series. Winning a lot of games gets you a little home field action but that is about it. How many times did our Vikes choke with some home field advantage? Our T-wolves did it recently. These are histories that may not bring a ton of pride but they illustrate one thing. It is nice to accomplish a goal, but it is better to achieve "the" goal. Just ask our Twins that won a title with approx. 87 wins that season or the Mariners that won 116 in '98.

That WAS the back 9....He shot a 32 on the front 9, but just like the Sux, he choked down the stretch!

ohhhhh, it must have been a par 3 course. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't shoot a 78 at the course I play at... www.willingersgc.com

the slope and rating is tough. check out the HSOforum... go on, just do it. tongue.gif

Tim your team is looking the most promising out of all the teams. I just cant see any other team coming from the national league. And with the Yankees being a mess that they are, and the Red Sox not being what they were last year. It might be time for the Cards to take it.

Pig & Gene - I sure do hope it's our year and we can get to the big dance, the key is healthy starting pitching. With Carpenter and a healthy Morris we can play with anyone, having a solid 3 with Mulder and even ham and eggers like Suppan and Marquis out of the pen, I'll take my chances.

Were 0-3 (Royals, Twins, Red Sox) in World Series play since I graduated high school in 82 when they beat the brew crew with whitey ball. Hopefully if things go well we can close the deal.

I'm a NL Central guy first and foremost if the Cubs or Houston miraculously finished a head of the Cards or were knocked off in the playoffs by either one I would still pull for the central. All of the Astro and Cubs fans I know are great people.

Gene mentioned a while back even when the cardinals face adversity they seem to push the right buttons to keep the ship afloat. I'll be honest I think Jocketty is a genius and working closely with the farm they have hit a homerun with Molina and Taguchi maybe J-Rod (John Rodriquez will be there next big fly). Walker and Edmonds and even Sanders are nearing the end of there fine careers nothing would satisfy them more than to send Larry Walker home with a world series ring. Grudz and Eckstein have been fantastic replacements for Renteria and Womack.

Off topic here but if...

the Orioles don't finalize this deal with Burnett and keep screwing around he'll be in a Red Sox or Yanks uniform quick. The key for the Marlins was dumping both Lowell and Burnett and if the deal with the orioles falls through Burnett can be a good 2 or at the least a 3 starter.

The Yanks might be the only team willing and able to pay for Burnett and his .500 record with a repaird elbow. I know, I know-with a better team, his record mightimprove. But it blows me away how high they get on some of these guys for either potential or past performance. Maybe the Cubs can unload Wood now too?

Hey Geno,

That was an honest 78, would have been a 75 but I kept hitting the windmill and couldn't get it thru the hippo's mouth, LOL. Hey, my bet is looking might good right now, Sox won 6-5 tonight and I will be willing to double the bet Geno, I bet they will win the next three games as well.

Windy, Windy, Windy.....

Yea, the Sox won tonight...The RED SOX that is...LOL...Thank you Manny!!!

And your STALE HOSE are going to drop the next 7-8 games....never thought I'd be rooting for the Yankees!!!

Your boys better heed old Satchel Paige's advice..."dont look back, something might be gaining on ya"...and that something is the TWINS!!!

And you can put THAT on the board!

Sorry Gull,

But I can't help myself. I do the same thing every year and somebody always bites on the bet. It's an old one but heck, I'm an old one! Let's chat in a few weeks and see where the chips are falling and what the race will shape up to be. Should be interesting!

so are you trying to say the "Red Sox" who won lastnight, will beat the "White Sox" in the next 3 games as well?

p.s.-- I get the joke, if you say the "Sox will win the next 3 games, it could go either way Red or White. However if you say "the Sox won tonight and they will win the next 3", your idicating the "Sox that won" which is the Redsox?

lol....sorry couldnt resist

Thought I better correct the thread name. It'd be great if this would continue for 10 more days like it has the last 3 days. I don't think that will happen, but hopefully we can keep gaining ground.

OK Geno,

We will call it a draw and by each other a mushroom swiss! Glad to see my boys sent me off with a thunderous win tonight. Mr. Garland was in fine form as usual and the Kitties gave a "beat down" to the Twinks. And for the cherry on top of the Sundae, the Cards beat the Cubbies with a suicide squeeze in extra innings. Gotta love Tony LaRussa. Oh well, enough for me, got to grab a few hours of "rack time" before heading out to Twinkie-Land at 3am, nighty night all and as usual...YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!
