I hear your dileman....I mean pain....I mean your jealousy....I mean the insanity you think these guys go through grin.gif

I too shake my head at this but you know what, it makes sense. You know why.........The more rods and lures you have set up, the less time a guy has to dink around in the boat having to dig for tackle, tie knots, and figure out lures to use, etc.

A definate must for big money tournaments because time spent tying knots and fidgeting with lures is time lost trying to upgrade your bag.

Jelousy is such a negative word smile.gif Lets use envy instead. But seriously tho. I consider myself a pretty dedicated bass fisherman but 12+ rods is borderline ridiculous. But i will say this, when i get my bass boat im gonna have 12+ rods too.

I have 5. I would like more grin.gif, but I have to buy all of mine and Im only 17 so Im a little short on cash. I can only dream for that day when I have a boat and too many rods than needed!

I do belive that having more rods does give you more fishing time and you can really work an area quickly and thoughroly by throwing up to 4 or 5 baits in the same spots to really see if anything is there.

Although when your on a pattern usually you are only using a few rods; maybe even just one.

You can never have to many! grin.gif

Currently I have 19 rods in the rod locker. Nearly all are rigged with different set-ups. I hate having to re-tie or re-rig a rod for a presentation. I like every rod/reel/type of line to PERFECTLY match its purpose. When it comes to fishing and boats, I am a perfectionist. Everything from Techna Flipping Sticks with Braided line to HMG's rigged with Vanish. Every rod has its specific action and line (size and type) to suit a specific purpose.

I have about 15 in my boat. Like Ross said I too hate to retie when ever I want to switch a lure. When I fish competitively I usually have 8-12 on the deck. Instant lure change if you know what I mean! cool.gif

Good Luck

I carry 11. They're all for a purpose. I don't mind retying, but I want certain characteristics in each rod for different types of presentations.

However, once I make friends with a rod, I keep using it until it's death. I know I have rods in the rod box that are going on 15 seasons of fishing. I finally broke vintage 1993 Series One 6'-6" MH a couple weeks ago. I almost shed a tear.

most tounaments I usually head to the lake with about 12-15 rods... Its deciding which of the 30 or so get to go for a boat ride that day that I have a hard time with.

To answer your question, you have to many rods when you start stepping on them and breaking them. So really, the number of rods you bring is dependant on how much space you have. I wouldn't dream of bringing 15 rods with in a canoe.

I am envious as well, but then I know that if I had 12-15 rods in the boat I would spend just as much time staring at them and wondering which to use as I would tying on a new bait. Plus, I fish from a 14 ft alumnacraft so the 3 rods I take with me are plenty. Maybe I need a bigger boat!

How many rods are too much? SIX is too MUCH! smile.gif

I (as of today) now have 5. I think this is just right for me. Here's what I used them all for:

1- Light action for panfish

2- Medium action for tubes

3- Medium action for senkos

4- Medium-Heavy action for crankbait

5- Medium-Heavy action for spinnerbait

All rods around 6' long. Except for my panfish setup.. all use 8lb Fireline with three foot 14lb Vanish fluorocarbon leader. Crank and spinnerbait setups have swivel clips for quick changes.

So... trust me.. five is all you need! tongue.gif

I feel your guys pain.

My ice fishing collection keeps growing and there is only SOOOO much space in an ice shack.

Noodle rod, spring bobber rod, panfish rods, URL crappie rods, walleye rods, catfish rods, deadstick rods, bobber rods, jigging rods, heavy jigging rod, tip-ups! Yikes! Where & when does it stop!

Evidently, it isn't how much tackle storage you have... it's the amount of space you have which determines the amount of rods you should carry... correct?

Insane. I wish I could do that.

Thus far, I've got a 5'2" UL and a 6'0" M. Somehow, I've been making them work for all fishing situations... which is hardly ideal or often times practical.

I'm planning on adding a 6'6" MH to my arsenal soon enough...
