Gift ideas for a fishing dad

My dad recently got a new fishing boat. Any good ideas on a Father's Day gift from you fishermen? Probably something for the boat. $150-250 price range?

I can't speak for the other fishing dads however I always like a gift certifcate. That way I can get exactly what I need.

I think a life jacket with his name embroidered on it would be personal and practical.

A gift certificate is really nice and he can pick out what he really needs. Other wise here are some ideas of boat/fishing things. A good drift sock, rodholders, a good landing net, vfh radio, binoculars, breathable raingear, Livewell net, fish carry bag, digital scale, smaller digital camera for the boat with waterproof case, Dry bags for storing clothing, raingear etc., tackle, good transom saver if he doesn't have one, and oh a gift certificate.

As a Dad of three (yes three) girls, I would want you to save your money and just have a steak on the grill. Enjoy

As a Dad, I would like something practical like an inflateable life-preserver. I think they run around $150 or so. Personally, I like the self-inflating, in case I was unconsious when I fell in the drink. They sell them a Cabela's, and probably at other outdoor stores too.

Yeah, I like Surface Tension's idea....create a card and certificate for like $5.00 and save yourself $145.00 I'm KIDDING!

Really I'd go with a gift card. Doesn't seem like much, but when you tell the what it is worth, your father will backflip 3 times.....he'll love it! Maybe even go with him when he spends it and then do a lunch or dinner together

I agree with MNice! Save your money. I just want the day. Come to the house and we will eat drink and be merry! My three boys are all old enuff to do that. If you really want to get something a Fleet Farm or Cabelas gift card can not be beat! My dad always said he did not want anything from us for fathers day when we were kids except for us to be there on his day. We always felt like we had to get him something anyway but now that I am the dad as well, I can see where he is comming from. Happy Fathers Day to all you dad's out there. As a father of 2 almost teenaged boys I can tell ya what would be really cool.

I'd totally dig it if I heard any of the following quotes;

"You mean you DIDN'T want me to stain the deck?"

As a veteran of more then 35 Father's Days I'm with MnNice.

If your father is anything like me he has certain ideas as to what he likes in the fishing/hunting area. This is not to say I haven't enjoyed the thought but some of the gifts were not what I needed or could use. Accepted them graciously anyway and used them whenever I was with my kids.

I much prefer spending the day with my kids and grandchildren then getting a gift.

Make or buy your dad a card. Take him out to breakfast. Bring over some steaks to grill and sweet corn to boil. Spend the day with him. I'm sure he would love that better then any gift you could give him.

A certificate for a custom fishing rod to use in his new boat would be cool too.

I was lucky when I got my fathers day gift early. They got me a lorance H20 handheld GPS. Then they got me the Lakemaster chip for it! Awsome! GPS has come a long way in 5 years! I am a lucky guy!

I'm getting my father's day gift three days late. My #1 son is coming home on leave from Afghanistan with all his fingers and toes.

Offer to go fishing just you and him. I have a daughter and getting to spend some time doing something with her alone is special enough gift for me. You could offer to bring the food drink and maybe even cook shore lunch.

There are lots of good ideas here.. cards, gift certificates, etc.. but if you are set on getting a really nice gift for him.. we would be way more helpful if we already knew what he had..

A handheld GPS can be used for everything(and they get used).. and there are lots of really good ones on the market now for reasonable prices (around $200) that can be upgraded if desired..

This would make an awesome gift for any fisherman.. unless their boat was already rigged with one, or they already have one and you didnt know it... If he has an older gps.. a new one still might be in line.. they are one of those things its hard to justify to the significant other to buy a newer one.. when we already have one... The new ones are like going from a Commodore 64 computer, to anything modern off the shelves these days.

Gift certificates are easy... but why is it when we get them that what we decide to purchase always cost more?

I was thinking something on the order of an, "I love ya Pa", a hug and a kiss but I think Bob the the best gift possible. Thank your son for serving for me.
