YO-HAN Still 4th Among The Pale Hose Pitching Staff

Recommended Posts

What can poor YO-HAN do to catch Superman? He can't pick up a victory against the hapless Giants. Let's review the records: Jon Garland 11-2, Mark Buehrle 7-1 and going to the bump Friday night, El Duque (even being injured) at 7-2. Poor YO-Han is barely better than our 4th guy, Freddie Garcia at 6-3. What does that say for the rest of the phenoms out there in Twinkie Town?

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!

windy I love how you don’t post for the 2 games your team lost, then you completely over exaggerate your 1 win out of 3 games, against what you called "A mediocre team".

You have no logic behind your posts at all. I understand a win is a win, and your team has more than the twins, and everyone else.

Is it really a lovely night to have your ace pitcher get roughed up? When I read the box score I was looking for a special note if the league permitted aluminum bats for the game.

However look at what your pitching staff is doing, they are going down hill fast, and not showing any signs of improvement as the season progresses. Your team and individual ERA is rising higher and higher, and your team couldn’t throw a strike out if their life depended on it.

If you want to flat out honestly argue that any one pitcher on the current white sox roster could, dominate and overpower an entire lineup better than Santana, you have no ground to walk on. I have never seen Judy Garland or any other white sox pitcher, pitch 7 innings and have every batter he struck out walk back to the bench in frustration trying to guess if their getting a 95mph fastball, or 25mph slower change-up or a nasty slider that leaves you missing the ball by a yard or 2.

I know its fun, and you like stirring the pot, but a little logic might get you some where on this board, instead of getting owned by sledneck everyday.

Also don’t forget to put Judy Garlands 6 earned runs in 6 innings on the board from last night.

Johan is better than any pitcher to ever don a [PoorWordUsage]sox uniform.

You know as well as everyone here that wins doesn't measure how good a pitcher is doing. Just look at the stats, Johan is better in almost every category than ALL your pitchers. I know there is no way you believe that Johan is worse than 4 of your pitchers. If you do, well then let's just say you missed the "boat". tongue.gif

How things have changed?

Last two starts against the White Sox for Johan

16.1 IP, 9 H, 2 W, 17 K, 1 ER, and 2 Wins

Now for a few other comparisons:

Wins: Johan 13, would be tied for second on Sox behind Garland @ 16.

ERA: 3.22, 2nd behind Buerhle @ 3.07

CG: 3, 1st next closest Sox Garland @ 2

Shutouts: 2, Tied with Garland

K's: 189, next closest (if you can call it close) Garcia @120

WHIP: 1.01, next closet on Sox Garland @ 1.17

OBP: .256, next closest Sox .294 Buerhle

If you ask me that kind of looks like an ACE, put Johan on the Sox early in the season with the run support the Sox were providing and he'd probably be closer to the 16 wins Garland has.

It's kind of sad that the Cy Young is weighted so much by wins and losses. ERA is almost everything in pitching. Garcia pitched a (just slightly) better game than Santana last night, gives up one hit, one run, and takes the loss. Would the Cy Young voters hold that against him? Not that he's going to win anyway. Clemens is having another amazing year buy may not win the award if he doesn't get up to at least 16 or 17 wins. It's a shame if he doesn't because he's blowing every one away. Awards can be so subjective.

he may have pitched a better game determined by hits allowed. But Santana pitched a better game by making less mistakes. Granted it was only 1 mistake, but the outcome of the game was determined by the first team to make a mistake.

Darn good baseball if you like those kind of games. Homers, and high scoring are fun, but a great pitched game ranks right up there.

I hear you, Run. I love the low scoring, pitching-dominated games. What I meant was that the Whities had quite a few well hit balls. The Twins had hardly any. In fact, they're swings were so feeble it's a wonder they even got the one hit. But things are going well when you can win like that. The Sox just hit at people and the Twins outfield got to the other ones. I was at the game and thouroughly enjoyed it.

I can't confirm the story as I don't read the metro papers, but I heard on KFAN today while driving in the car in which they mentioned a story indicating that going back through the 2003 season Johan is something like 27-2 with a sub 2.00 ERA after the break. Did any of you metro guys read this?

Juggs,

Glad to see somebody up there in Twinkie Land still has some sense left. I agree that Garcia pitched a much better game than Santana. Yohan was rocked in the 8th inning. Each of the 4 balls hit were smoked. Two right at the outfielders, the solid single and then the ball that Ford robbed with a great catch into the wall. I think the Sox would have won the game had Santana been man enough to finish what he started and try to come out in the 9th inning. I give that game to Gardenhire for having the sense to see that Yohan was gassed and had nothing left. Don't see many stud pitchers who have a shutout thru 8 not at least try to finish out the game. Nathan was by far the better choice because Yohan had nothing left.

Buehrle came back to form tonight, schooling the Twinks for 8 innings and giving up 1 run (which is why he came out, I guarantee if he was pitching a shutout, Ozzie would have left him in there) next up...Mr. Garland will be holding class at high noon!

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!

Windy,

You have defended the Hawk saying he'd "rather have Nathan strike out the side" as a compliment to Santana and now you are dissing on him for not completing the game. Which side of the street are you on man? That is some real teeter tottering as I see it.

Windy-Dye robbed Puntos right field fly and it would have added a run for the twins and Santana would have got the win if he went in the 9th it doesnt matter how hard the hits were, they just didnt get pass by the Twins Defense... if you think Dye's catch wasnt robbed then Fords catch wasnt robbed either.

Thanks Windy but I did say a slightly better, not much better game. Both of them were lights out. Both deserved a "W." It was one of the very few times I was in favor of the manager pulling the starter in favor of the closer. Especially when Santana had been so strong. You're right, though, the Sox hit the tar out of the ball in the eight but couldn't score. Santana was very lucky to get through that inning. It's the most enjoyable game I've been at in a while.

Don't you love it when Windy's own words come back to bite him in the arse. So....

1. Garland must not qualify as a stud pitcher as he was yanked while still having a shut out.

2. Ozzie forgot to read or Windy forgot to inform him of his guarantee. Garland has a shut out, records the first two outs of the 8th and then Ozzie PULLS HIM!!
