danny berg
For me, any duck that actually falls out of the sky is an unusual duck
Duck-o-holic
Wow... I thought I had shot something rare when I was shooting Scoters a few years back. Sounds like they're pretty common in the state. I've only shot one Black Duck in MN. I'd love to bag a few more though. I think that there more common in Eastern and North-eastern MN. The further west in MN I hunt, the more pintails I get. Still have yet to bag a long-sprigged drake though! The duck that I want to shoot the most right now, is a cinnamon teal! I'm sure I'd have to head a ways west to get into them though. I've also never shot a speck, although I've had them decoying ALL DAY during spring snow hunting. I think they'd be extinct if their season was in the spring too! I've also never shot a Quill, but would really love to put one on the wall.
mwktrapper
I like your taste Duck-O-Holic. It'd be nice to shoot a little cinnamon. We were lucky to get into several blacks last fall. We shot one that was bigger than any duck I've ever seen.
Sartell Angler
this fall, I hope to shoot a black, a can, a snow/blue, or a speck...each year it seems we get a new species and these are the ones I still haven't gotten yet.SA/wdw
Eric Wettschreck
I really want to get a pintail. We see them in the spring but rarely do I see them in the fall. Hopefully, some day if things go my way I'll get one.
tealitup
For the longest time I have wanted to shoot a bull canvasback. Last year I took a kid with lukemia (sp) out hunting for the first time. His first ever bird was a bull can. Maybe next year.
Dean Schellinger
Tealitup, that is a nice story. I bet it was just as good or better knowing you were the one that got him that big bull can.

That bull can for the little cancer kid is probably one of the best birds harvested anywhere last year teal! Congrats to him and GREAT JOB to you for making it happen!!! tealitup
Yea, it was the best time I have had hunting for a long time. That day I did not fire a shot, but he had about a box of shells on the ground. I got the bull can back from the taxidermist and going to give it to him this next weekend. He still talks about the hunt and wants to go next year. His mom hates me for buying him a duck call. jblabsnduck
Good for you Tealitup. That is the best thing I have read on this site as of lately. Who needs to read all this junk when I can read something like you posted. Thanks for sharing. If you ever need another bird mounted for another kid just let me know. I might be able to help you out. I have a very good friend that does taxidermy and I am sure he would give one hell of a nice discount for something like that. Congrats, this site needs more people like you. tealitup
jblabsnduck, thank you for the offer - Maybe next year he can shoot one of the real unusual birds - course I did tell him that he shot one of the hardest and rarest birds in Minnesota.
