President or Curado?

I'm going to be buying a new reel for bass fishing and have narrowed my search down to either the Pfluger President or the Shimano Curado. I've heard great things about both models from varous people. Can someone who has owned both models comment on which they like better and why? Thanks!

i have never tried the President. i have 6 Curados and would never give 'em up. they are very smooth casting and reeling. i would get the Curado Super-Free. there is a post in here from a few weeks ago talking about the Super-Free feature, it is a very nice reel and resonably priced.

They are both awesome reels. I've got both. I think the President is the smoothest reel I've ever used, so maybe I would lean that way. But you can't go wrong with either.

Sorry, I can't be more decisive. I'm sure the Curado lovers will come out and tell you otherwise, but make sure they have owned a President. Some people don't like Pfluegers because apparently at one time they didn't make quality stuff. I believe companies can change or decide to build better products. I doubt you will find a president owner that is not thrilled with it, although they've only been around for a couple of years.

I'm anxious to hear back from those who are using Pfluegers, say mid-summer. I'm a dedicated Shimano guy, but always willing entertain something less expensive if can meet Shimano's performance quality and durability.

Over the years I've tried many alternatives and always turn back to Shimano. I like them Curados.

I own them both. I used 3 presidents last summer. 1 BC and 2 spinning. They are the best reels I have ever had except for a Finor Ahab. Very smooth and tough.

I love my Curados. They are bullettproof. But the President is the smoothest, most free flowing BC I have ever held. When you are shopping them free spool both. The president will roll longer every time.

You can't go wrong with either.

I too have never used the Pflueger President... However Ray, the president retails for $10 more than a curado.. so you wouldnt be saving any money...

I too have a lot of curados, they are by far shimanos #1 selling baitcaster, and probably the #1 selling baitcaster in the world. For good reason!.. you will find few that will have a bad thing to say about them.

the SF model is very popular as well!

With all that being said.. the Pflueger President has had little bad said about it as well. I think either way you do you will not be disapointed.

I do notice that the President has more ball berings, however, the grears in a shimano are second to none. So that could be a toss up as well.

Used my president for about half a season last year, but it was enough to make me go buy another one. I looked at the curado when I went to buy my second, and in terms of the spool spin, I would have gone with a super free which is 20 more than the president. I am sure you can't go wrong with either and will end up being a personal prefrence. As stated, curado is very popular, but I think for the price range, the president is right behind. I do like the free soft sided tackle bag I get with the president. I know it doesn't help at all but they are both high quality reels.

One thing that is still in question is the long term durability of the President. I have Curados as do many others that have been in use for years. Just another point to consider...

No matter what the reel, I'm just itching to toss for some bass!

I have both of them and I really like both of them. Honestly, I bought the Curado SF first and it was my favorite reel I had ever used, then I bought the President and that took its place. The President just has a better feel to me and it is flat out smooth, right down to the bearings in the handle paddles. If you just flick a paddle handle, it will spin forever. The President is just a well-thought out reel. The Curados are proven to be durable over time, that is the only reason that I would pick a Curado before a President. Other than that, I would pick a President everytime.

RR, a friend of mine had a President and decided to go the Trion route for his 2nd one and was not happy with it at all. I personally don't know the difference, but he said it was a big difference. Maybe he'll sell it to you. I think he only has a couple of hours max on it.

I went to Gander last night to look at reels. It was late and I couldn't get help at the fishing counter so I never got a chance to pick up the President or the Curado as they were behind glass. I did look at the Trion and was impressed with it. Thanks for all the info eveyrone. Keep it coming.

RR, I am the guy HT wrote about I have the Trion and I prefer the President. I will sell you my Trion for $50. I have only used it a few times. The main thing I dont like about the Trion is the spool tensioner doesnt click like the President so it feels like it changes with each cast. Let me know.

My hopes and dreams are shattered once again. Those reels cost more than a Curado! I'll stick to my Shimano guns.

Note from the author: It's a well known fact that I would pinch a nickel to get five pennies. Someone give me something cheap and good.
