Last Years Gas

Just wondering what everybody does with their old gas. I want to start the year with new gas. I put Stabill in it the end of last year, but I just would rather get rid of it. It's only about 3 1/2 gallons.

I live in the country but burning it makes so much black smoke that it might raise an eybrow at the Fire Station.

Fill your vehicle 3/4 full with fresh gas and then dump in the old gas. When it is mixed with the new your vehicle won't have any problem burning the older fuel.

If you can take it to your landfill they will take it.

If the gas was good when you added Stabil last fall it should still be good.

I think you should use that gas, especially if your outboard starts and runs in the back yard. I admit that I'm terrible about putting stabil in my tank and maybe I'm lucky that I haven't had any serious old gas problems. But year after year, the remaining gas has still worked. Seems that the performance was just a little less, maybe lost some octane over the winter but nonetheless the outboard has always started and ran. Easier than trying to get rid of it.

Hey Val, I wouldn't burn the whole kit and kaboodle all at once just a quart or two at a time. I know WAY too dangerous.

I had trouble one year with half last years gas and half new gas. I have an older 25 horse Johnson and it would only run if I had the choke butterfly half closed. The problem went away when I put all new gas in.

I dont' want to run it in my truck do I? Won't that plug injectors or something. Maybe it would be ok if I had close to a full tank and just topped it off with the 2 cycle mixed gas. I think I forgot to mention that it's mixed gas.

The price of gas now a days I shouldn't just waste it. That's a lot of Girl Scout fluid for campfires.

I always put my last year's mixed gas in my truck and have never had a problem. It is usually only about a gallon or so though. If you're worried I would do it half one tank and half the next tank of gas. I've got 130,000 on this truck so it isn't hurting it too much if it is.

I wouldn't hesitate one bit to burn that up with Stabil treated. Maybe top off the tank with new stuff, but personally, I wouldn't throw it.

I fill all gas tanks in mowers, boats, cycles, etc.. during the winter (with Stabil/Seafoam mix). I think mostly it's the moisture that builds inside the tanks in the cold/warm temp fluctuations over the winter that hurts the most. My boat has 43 gallons of last years gas in it and it runs perfect. I've been doing this for many years, never a problem.

BTW, I wouldn't put pre-mix fuel in any automobile!

I have always mixed it in with my truck also and never had a problem. I always start the year with a little richer mix in my boat to burn the old oil.

I just run it through my outboard witht eh seafoam(has stabilizer in it). But I usually have a full tank or close to it. Many recomend storing with a full tank to avoid condensation of any moisture within the tank with can cause corrosion. Haven't had any problems other than the exhaust smells funny from the seafoam additive.

I/We always just fire them up 'cause the only ice we have down here is in our whiskey glass. Really, the motors don't stay out of the water more than a month or two.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I poured it in my truck ('96 Chev. K1500) and then added 10 gal of gas at the pump. No check engine light yet. Knock on wood.

A little late, but if you know a farmer or some one with a old tracter they love the to take the free gas even if it has a liitle oil in it!!!

Just dump it in your truck...a couple of gallons of mixed fuel in a 20+ gallon tank of gas won't matter a bit. We did that on the farm for years...never hurt anything.

Reminds me of the time I caught myself filling up my truck with diesel fuel. 10 gallons diesel then 10 gallons of gas.

I didn't notice any difference except for a different smell.

Well Surface Tension you might have something there except diesel is more spendy then gas now.

I put stabil in mine also and have never had a problem. If you are wanting to get rid of it, take the family on a long boat ride and then add fresh gas to replace what you used. I would not burn gas under any circumstances, too dangerous. Besides, in some areas of the state it is still dry, I would not want to be the one that starts a grass fire!

The last thing I would do is dispose of it. I use my old gas every year in my two strokes. Might not be what the mechanic or the manual recommends....I just took my boat out Saturday and it ran like a top for a 10 mile trip. (100% last years mixed gas) I try not to do it...but if there's some left from last year, it's going to get used.
