Captain B.R.K
Any predictions??? I'm going to say April 9th as a date for some of the smaller lakes in Central MN. 2 weeks from now!
jigginjim
hi cap. I say some of the smaller lakes will open in one week.
squeedunk
If the forecast is accurate I am guessing that the ice will be gone from the smaller metro area lakes by April 6th.

The_Duckslayer
Stopped by Cedar lake off of HWY 13 on my way home tonight. It is open about to about 15 feet out from the shore and the ice that is left on it is awful dark. I bet in the next 8-10 days or so if this wind keeps up and it rains. searchingfor55''
I don't know about you guys, but that "ice out" term always makes me depressed. I hate it when ice fishing comes to a close. At least until musky opener.
Captain B.R.K
I sure hope ice is out soon. I'm planning on heading home with the boat to work on a few things the weekend of 9th-10th. Hoping to possibly get it out on the water as well!?!? Fingers crossed!
Fishing-Around
B R K, with this wonderfull rain this morning your wish on being on the water that weekend is now a dream come true.
Eric Wettschreck
In SW MN a weekend on the water in a boat is probable. Most of the ice is gone and the rain, along with high winds, will get rid of the rest.
Dotch
More rain this afternoon and the ring around St. Olaf will be larger. Don't know if it will be completely open by week's end tho. Our pond (about 3 acres) is open. Of course, if the pond was in WI, it would qualify as a lake, just like our puddles and livestock tanks!
EBass
I'm glad spring has sprung. The boat is ready and the river is calling. Good bye 20 below. Good bye ice house tipping over from the 40+ MPH wind and hello sunshine and 60 degrees. I will miss tip-uping for pike though. Ice fishing is fun, but I really like warm weather a lot better. Oh ice out. I guess about a week or a bit more for Tonka. Depends on the weather of course.
Tom Linderholm
Ice out is Tommorrow for me, Gonna hit Lake Superior. We have push a little ice around but should be a great day out on the water tommorrow. Ohh still can't wait.
Wayne Ek
Just got back from 5 days at the Mpls. Sports show. When I left there was 30 plus inches of ice on the bay infront of my place. Walked out this morning, had to use the dock, as the ice has pulled 4-5 feet out from the shore. Now there is only 15-16 inches, top 2-4 inches is pretty poor and bottom 5 inches is really jagged and pitted... not long now.But at last the crappies have moved into the bay!!! knoppers
was up to the cabin in palisade expecting to ride the wheeler out fishing, but the shoreline ice was no good, big holes and lots of water on the ice. I am sure if I could have gotten out, it was thick enough, last weekend there was at least 2.5 ft of ice. it should go fast now, and expecting it will be out as normal, the weekend of the 16th. I put all the ice gear away for the year.
Melon
knoppers, I hope you're right. I've got a weeknd planned up there with some buddies on the 16th. They'll be awefully disappointed if we can't put the boat in the water.
knoppers
melon,I was up there this weekend, and the ice was going out fast, with the warm temps and strong winds. if it rains on sunday, it will be out by sunday night or monday at the latest. I am planning on putting the dock in and the pontoon in on the weekend of the 16th. the ice on fleming will be out by next weekend for sure. if your on wilkins, it will be iffy, since the ice on this lake goes out about one week later than fleming. ice should be out on the other lakes in the area next weekend.
