strikemaster auger

I have the ultra mag, with the 2hp motor. problem being it blows a black smoke out the exhaust and leaves a black sticky tar like substance all over the handles. I mix the gas 50-1 using strikemaster oil, should I mix it different or it the problem something else?

Mine did the same exact thing. I switched to using Amsoil synthetic. No more black icky stuff.

Amsoil is the only way to go!! Reduces smoke which is a big thing if you drill in a permanant house...

The correct mixture for your Auger is 24-1.

My jiffy and dads lazer mag call for 24 to 1 mixture. Maybe the ultra is differnet. Might want to check on that.

Otherwise give Strikemaster a call at 763-263-8999 and they'll help you out. I'm dropping mine off Monday for a quick while you wait repair.

Pierbridge is right the mixture is 24-1, and thats what the strikemaster oil mixes to in the little bottles from gander mtn. The mixture is right I was off on the numbers. The oil is suppose to be smokeless, have to find a place here in Duluth and try amsoil.

My Strikmaster Dealer repair center "D ROCK in New Brighten" has told me to use regular 2 stroke oil, they have seen MANY Strikemaster augers with bad engines from SYNTHETIC OILS and if the failure is not within the 1 year warranty your out of luck.

Sam some smoke is normal. Black smoke means to much fuel or lack of combustion. I'd start with spark plug condition, air intake blockage or improper fuel mixture.

Call and talk to a TEC at strikemaster. Told me that the black tar stuff was unburned oil blowing out past a gasket between the motor and muffler. seemed a little screwy, but he claims it happens now and then. said to go to 50-1 mixture, 24-1 is mostly for breakin.
