2005 Bear

Recommended Posts

I am planning on applying this year. It would be the first time I have ever applied (and if drawn, obviously first time ever hunting them). I would be hunting north of Duluth on some private land. We have a bear coming in a marking our cabin. I personally have not seen him, but he has left his scratch marks, and gotten into a few things. When do the applications need to be in? Any info on how to go about hunting bear would be greatly appreciated too.

Fallfrenzy, go down to the "bear hunting in MN" subject. (I'd link it myself, but I'm not that skilled!) There are a few tips there. I'm not sure when the deadline is to pick-up and turn-in the applications, but it must be coming up soon. The DNR site might have that info. There is a book by Dr. Ken Nordberg called Do it Yourself Bear Hunting...or something close to that. That has a lot of info in it as well. I checked it out of the St. Cloud Public Library, so maybe the local library would have it and you wouldn't have to buy it.

Our group hunts in 51 also. Only got one last year for 4 of us and that was on my property. The forest is starting to get a little crowded with bear hunters so I make sure I have Friday of 1st baiting weekend off to get my spots. What part of the county are you hunting?

Looks like I will be throwing my hat in the ring again for this Fall. After a season off I will be bow hunting with Zarakohl from this site. Sounds like area 44. Archery this time too. Lots of planning to be done for that.

I think we have until early May to get the apps. in for MN. WI baiting starts in April.

I got my 2003 bear rug back and it looks great. done from a master taxidermist from Hastings. Cannot wait to get a really big one this time at close range with the sharp sticks.!!!

I'm hunting no quota, Pine County. Bronco - I hunted this area two years ago and had three bears coming in, two were over 300, the one I ended up getting was 225. There are a lot of bears in the area, just gotta know where to look.

Hey Setterguy,

Do you want to give any info on "these" places to hunt? I have never hunted in MN before and have no idea where to start. Thanks

By the way on the topic of the post: I plan on hunting wherever I get the most info on what is the best and easiest place to hunt. I am new to the area and have never hunted here before. Any info that anyone would want to give me would be greatly appreciated. Tight lines and clean shots.
