BigB
Can anyone recommend a top notch portable (2 person) that is durable and comfortable?
Neiko
My vote is for the Eskimo Pro. Sets up really quick and plenty of room for 2 plus the construction is great.
CrappieJohn
The Polar Sport Nordic! Very accomodating for two persons. Quick set-up/take down. NO binding slide poles. Very large front door. auger holder built into the seat brackets. Im 6', 230 and fit in mine with one more fisherman nicely. 70 pounds. They can be found here on site under the Sponsors link or by going to www.polarsport.com. And the are a Minnesota company and are American made. Eric Wettschreck
I have a fish trap guide. It does the trick but if you're looking for top notch I'd stay away from this particular model.I don't like the fact that there isn't a zipper door. I have to unfold the whole thing just to get out. efgh
I have one of the early fish traps, no door, its too small, sliding seat but its easy to load in a truck or car, was looking at the newer ones at fleet farm with the zipper door, sliding bucket seat. a one man one made by fishtrap. was wondering if anyone had one and how they liked it? Ed Carlson
Depends on your needs really? If lightweight and roomy is top on your list the Frabill XL-Twin is a great shack. If you plan to pull the rig huge distances with a load of heavy gear then I would look at the Otter Two rigged with High-Fax runners and a rigid ATV hitch. If an ultralight 2 man with lots of room is the plan then the Frabill Ice Cruiser 200 or 300 is a lightweight and economical system.
LEECH21
I have a one person Fish Trap Pro and love it. It's light, easy to use, and made to last.
EBass
Otters are a sweet house. I had a fish trap before and I'm so glad I upgraded to an Otter Cottage this year. The setup was easy, the extra long skirting keeps out all the wind, zipper door, window on all sides, reflective piece on all 4 sides, and mine weighs 50lbs while to 2 man weighs 70lbs. Otter has a lot of other options as far as a hitch, rod holder, couple different seats, hi fax skids, and purple or green colors to choose from. Not to mention the toughness of the sled and canvas! I'll have this house for years to come. Did that sound like a commercial?
bigswede
I second the Otter. I have the Magnum. I am 6'7", 325 lbss. and fish in this house with ease, along with my Dad who is 6'4". It is very durable and is grreat for towing into Saganaga many trips and LOW and many other lakes. I am going on 5 years and nothing is wrong. Very little wear on thewear points even. ice_shack
Otter hands down. The best built unit out there IMHO. I've had mine for five years. It's been through countless wind storms and is still in as good a shape as when I bought it. Except the wear on the bottom from getting draged across parking lot and dirt. It gets used on average twice a week. [Note from admin: Otter is a sponsor and you can see them at: otter.com - CLICK HERE.]
Scenic
My top recommendation would be the Polar Nordic. A lot of features that make this house a great shack. One feature that was not mentioned that I really like is that flat top on the sled. That allows for the entire sled to be used for seating. You can check them out online at http://www.polarsport.com. Or I know several retailers in the metro area that have some in stock.

Excellent, I just picked one up this morning from Gander Mountain in Mankato and assembled it. This is one incredible portable Ice house. Thanks for the heads up, I was looking at the Clam fishtrap Yukon but everywhere I went they were sold out. Can `t wait to take my son out fishing. Totally new experiance for him compaired to riding in the boat. Thanks again, Jim

Phred52
Jim43, I also have a Yukon, about 2 weeks now. Found some that were still available about 12 miles East of where you bought yours. So far it's GREAT, was a wise upgrade.

So far it's GREAT, was a wise upgrade. Well, I was surfing the net for days and lurking around here trying to decide what house to get and had decided upon the Yukon, Guess I waited to long. Anyway, I am very happy with the deal I got on the Nordic Express at Gander Mt. I compared the canvas and the Nordic had a far better quality then the fishtrap family. It was a bear wrestling the tent on the frame. Tent alone must weigh about 35lbs. I love the deluxe paded swivel seats that came with. Like something you would find on a boat. http://www.polarsport.com/nordic.html Now comes the hardest part of fishing around the New Ulm area. Finding a lake worth fishing, I haven`t fished in a few years around here. Clear Lake and Hanska were worthless when I did try. Then again, I never get enough time to really try the best time a day for it though.
BigB
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll be checking out the lot of them over the next two weeks. Heading up to Red with my 8 year old for a good weekend in a sleeper - he's wondering if all the buckets are for fish! Oh.. the lessons we teach. Ryan Berger
I highly reccomend the otter Magnum Lodge, highly durable, super comfortable, and roomy to boot, I can easily stand in mine and I am 6'2". It is also easily loaded, I have loaded mine many of times by myself.
