Tail Length

What is the longest tail anyone has herd on a rooster. I had a personal best 24 1/2" this year. My uncle shot a 27" in Iowa 3 years ago.

My personal best was one several years ago with a length of 26 1/8 inches. I remember it becasue I won $50 in a long tail contest with it!

My buddy shot a 27 incher last week around the Lake Henry area, now that's a nice bird. I just wish I would of got it, Oh well it will make a good mount for him anyway.

A few years ago my uncle shot two birds that had 27 and 28 inch tails! That was in way Southeastern MN. We saw lots of birds with long tails that year.

my best was 25 but that is aso allot of birds to get that got one last weekned with 2 inch spurs that was verry cool cuz got it behing a free pointer that was never trained on here 3 rd day out

I could maybe accept two 1" spurs. Maybe. But no way am I buying two 2" spurs. The longest spur I've ever seen is 7/8".

2" spurs on a phesant!!!

Were the 'phesants' you were shooting sporting beards, waddles, and gobbling as they flushed? 1" is huge, but 2" is questionable at best. I think you are getting turkey & phesant spurs mixed up, easy to do if you hunt a lot. This is the Turkey/Pheasnt/Grouse/Dove subject area also so that could have been a mix up also.

I measured a tail two weeks ago that was 25" but didn't even bother with the 50+ our group shot last weekend but some were top notch on old birds.

hmmmmm makes ya wonder!!!!! i've been hunting birds for 30 years and have very rarely and i mean very rarely do i ever see a 1" spur. hey radke 22 are they out from the park yet getting any walleyes ?????

Neighbor went out yesterday and said there was 2" and he's always the first on the river. It'll be a good week or so before anyone else gets out there.

Got two old long tails on Sat., one was 25" and the other 23" with an honest 7/8" spur that I think is the longest I've ever gotten. I just don't think they can grow to 2".

My uncle shot a very old rooster 4 years ago. It had a 28 inch tail and 1 1/8 inch spurs. It was huge, had to be a third year bird. When we cleaned it, it was almost twice the size of the other roosters we shot. My uncle still kicks himself for not mounting it. Those spurs were huge, theres no way they could have 2 inch spurs. These spurs dident just stick strait out, they went out a ways then curved down like a quarter circle. We busted it out of a cattail swamp feet from a wildlife refuge in december.

i have a frend that has a set of 3 inchers if i can get good picture i will send at least one set in i have killed allot of birds and these 2 inchers are by far my best

My best is 29 1/2" that i shot 2 years ago, and now is displayed in my living room, it had 1 1/8" spurs. Had to have been a 3 or 4 year old bird. Did see a 31" tail on a bird 3 years ago, that won a long tail contest.

According to the ND Game and Fish Public Lands booklet, they measure spurs from the front of the leg bone to the tip. Maybe that's how you get to 2".

Three inch spurs??? Now that is something I would have to see to believe!!!

In many years on pheasant hunting I have seen one three & half year old bird shot (it was huge) and it had honed whites spurs that measured 1.25 inches and those were curved.

1.5 inches possibly, 1.75 inches maybe.... 3 inches doubtful and if it is true it is a genetic freak. Based on the 2.5 year old rooster mounted on my wall (with 7/8 inch spurs) I doubt a rooster with 3 inch (or even two inch) spurs could walk or run. Turkeys don't even get three inch spurs and their spur start further off the ground.

Lets see some pictures. I am ready to be a believer with proof.
