Sod Farmer
This will be my second year of ice fishing if we ever get enough ice. I am putting the finishing touches on my first permanant shack and need to know what I need to be legal. I know that I will need a license for the shack, but I remember other permanant shacks having more than just a license posted. I recall seeing the owners name and possibly other info in large letters. Also, how much does the law require as far as reflectors are concerned? Thanks! - - - Jim
mnboy26
According to the book you need one of the following regarding info on the outside of your house. complete name and address or drivers license number or dnr fishing license number.these need to be posted in at least 2 inches in height.if you leave the house out over night you need at least 2 inches square of reflective material on each side of the house.hope this helps craig
jigginjim
I just was gone to type the same thing. The rule is for relective material 2" square on each side. I think more would be better. It could save you from being ran over or your house be hit.
CrappieJohn
Do yourself a favor with the reflectors and put a strip about a foot long by two inches, about four feet up on each side. If it is self adhesive, put some staples in it. I won't go into the reasoning....
Tahoe2349
Jim:Go to any auto store or truck stop and get actual amber or red markers. You can choose from lighted or self reflecting, flat or raised, screw on or adhesive mount.Mount them as if it were a trailer with four or five on front and rear, and side corner marks.Mine has a group of (3)towards roof top spaced in the middle with one each in the corner. They are 4" flat type/amber self adhesive and clear silicone sealed. The side corners have one each red one at the top side.Mine lights up very nice when hit by any light !!My Dad has a friend who sprayed the back of his "mini-blinds" in all his windows with some reflective paint used by surveyers or something. Thing lights up like a pumpkin I tell ya.. lol
hanson
I have yet to put the reflective material on the outside of my house. It hasn't been on the ice yet and still has about a month to go.I'm going with CrappieTom's suggestion. Actually I'm looking for the same stuff that is on the side of semi trailers. The alternating white & red reflective tape. As I'm typing this, I realize I could probably find it at a truckstop. Anyone know a good source? hanson
Well- Picked up some of that reflective tape I was looking for earlier. Northern in Tonka did have the stuff. Holy dump is it expensive. (8) 16" long pieces for 18 dollars !! Yikes. I decided to go with the shorter white only stuff. You get (4) 8" long pieces for about $5. Picked up 4 packs to put 1 strip on every corner of the house. How much does it cost to put this stuff on both sides of a 53' semi trailer??
arbuck
Quote: How much does it cost to put this stuff on both sides of a 53' semi trailer?? If I remember correctly the cheapest I found it, a couple of years ago when it was mandated that all trailer be retro-fitted, was about $125.00 for a 150' roll and at about 2 trailers per roll x 50 some trailers = expensive Ah yes and it has to have that little DOT printed on it to be legal (for trailers any way). arbuck
buzbunni
How are you attaching it hanson? Are you going to staple it like CT suggested? Glue? I bought some of the self-adhesive reflective material, and I'm pretty darn sure it ain't gonna hold on the canvas without some help.
