What items did you add this year that helped you catch fish?

Just thought it would be nice to hear what improved your time on the ice?

Keys for me were:

1. Vexilar FLX28

2. Clam Auger conversion kit

3. Clam Spring bobbers

4. Clam tungsten jigs.

1. FLX-28's Weed Mode. It rocked and made the difference this tourney season.

2. Clam Auger Conversion Kit, I have made it through this whole winter without gas. That's drilling 200 holes a day with 40 days ether prefishing or tourney day.

1. DH AL Dente rod for light biting perch

2. UV BuckShots

3. Tungsten Jigs

The main thing I did to improve my fishing this winter was once the good early ice bite slowed down close to home I started driving 2 hours to Devils Lake to go fishing on Saturdays. While a lot of my friends were driving 15 to 35 miles and not catching enough quality fish to be happy I was driving 110 to 125 and was having much better fishing.

I added not one item other than a Slush Copter to clean out the holes in my wheel house.

My flashers are older, LX5 and a Bird 55 but they still get the job done.

As far as rod's and lures, I have all I really need to ice fish. I build all of my own rods and they are about as up to date as they can be.

Had another great winter for all specie and still using my older gear.

clam conversion kit

tungsten jigs

dead stick rod

updated every combo to inline reel

clam 6 pack pop up (which is still unused but hope to have kids out soon)

bait pucks

fast snaps, great for regular lures, not so much for tungsten (eyelets too small)

started my own fishing log book last season with what I caught where & when with what bait etc. for future reference & learning curve

.....and learned a lot more about hard water fishing, from reading type & size of fish on fish finder to contours

The FLX-28 was a definite winner, as was the K-Drill. I used the K-Drill to re-drill holes in our rentals all season long, and loved it. Clinets couldn't believe the speed and effectiveness.

Something overlooked by many, that I use almost daily all season long is the Clam Spud Bar. Esepecially now in my driveway and sidewalk, and at the end of rental season. So heavy duty...

Polaris 600 Indy Voyager with front auger mount and rear rack to hold the house. In 35 trips and a shade over 650 miles it was perfect.

Eskimo Wide 1 Inferno

Vexilar 2000DT camera

The sled made the biggest difference allowing me to fish places I could never get to before with my truck or atv.

The Inferno was warm even in the coldest weather on LOTW when it was 25 below with nearly -35 wind chill.

Camera worked good in most lakes depending on the clarity of the water.

On Leech and Winni it was even better than I expected.

A sled or quad is something that I would love to add for next season. Too bad Breuer sold his before I could get on the phone and tell him to drive it my way wink

Down here I think a Quad would be more suited for our conditions plus I would get more use out of it.

I did miss one thing on my list that helped me on the ice and that was the addition of the Clam Merino wool socks. Keeping my feet warm is key to staying on the ice longer and with those socks and the liners from Clam I was able to fish 12hours + without issues.

Oh and one more. Dave Genz Legacy series rods!

This thread sounds like it should be called what do people sponsored by clam use? I added a new house a buddie and I built that probably helped catch the most fish. I also added a smartphone with navionics that's handy but not sure if it's any better than my lowrance xog with lake master.

FLX-28, Eskimo wide one, PK Predator Spoons, PK Flutterfish spoons, and More PK Spoons! My Striker Predator Suit kept me warm through those cold stretches on and off the ice as well! best suit I have ever owned hands down!

The Vexilar FLX-28. We were out the other night and were seeing so much plankton in the water my buddy could hardly see his jig. I switched to 2 color display and ended up hooking some nice crappies right under the ice. I am also completely sold on the pro view transducer. Allowing for infinite adjustability has really elevated my game this season.

Let me start by saying I'm not using "give away's" from anyone. Paid cold hard cash for everything.

(1)- Clam Nanook Thermal, Love it. The GF moved up from OKC and loves ice fishing in it also. I had her catching fish in about an hour with the (2)Vex FL20. She just couldn't help but smile when she would see the fish come in to her bait and then make them bite. (3) Eagle Claw inline ice reel. Love it. Need more of them for next yr.

I also added the (4)clam auger kit but I need a better drill before next yr.

Last, (5)plastic's where new for me. Had great luck with them. At times out fishing a live bait.

All in all, a good yr. Even with all the snow and sub 0* temps.

Definitely the Vexilar FLX-28. Also started putting my Thorne Bros Tripwire rod to good use. I came across some crazy fussy Bluegills my last time out and I was having a hard time detecting bites but the Tripwire rocked it!!!

Good fishing,

Corey Bechtold

1 Strikemaster Magnum

2 VMC Tumbler Spoons

3 Chubby Darters

4 extension

5 Minnow heads

Brokedown and had to replace my old Jiffy Model 30. It was becoming too unreliable. I decide to go light and affordable. So the Mag fit the bill. The little 2 horse solo has proven to be all I need. I am a chipper blade fan and don't need to win any speed contests. Too old for that. I am very happy with this auger and the weight has helped me a lot. With my old jiffy 10 holes and I was sick of it.

I spent December on Red like 4 or 5 days a week and had time to try a few new baits. I really liked the VMC Tumbler for neutral or negative fish. When the bite was off or simply during off bite times I would fish it and I really liked the subtle moves it has. Definitely has earned a place. As too did the Darter. During hot bites I jigged one a lot. That is an awesome feeling having a fish come in and crush your lure.

As March rolled in I purchased an extension for my strikemaster. Needed it most of the month. I fished Leech, Pike Bay, Cass, and Winnie a lot and even with the extension it has been close to bottoming out. I am still out perch fishing and I still have it on. Some places I think there is still near 40 inches of ice.

I decided to jig my various spoons with only a minnow head this season. I was always split in years past. I think I had a better hook up percentage. I am tuned to it now so will probably be a minnow head guy now. My deadstick is still a whole minnow.
