Turkey Day Ice?

It's looking like a possibility up north this year.

Ponds are iced over and the first 15-20 yards of several smaller lakes are frozen... I think it's a forgone conclusion that we'll be fishing by then on many northern lakes here, if not several days before (Grand Rapids area).

I’m hoping to be ice fishing thanksgiving weekend in the Hinckley area. Good thing all this snow fell before the lakes froze over.

It was going dark on my travels from Little Falls to Crosslake but the only open water I saw was Big Trout tonight.  I’m sure much of the chain is open but quite a bit of water closed up this past week.

Then maybe my 1700 acre Itasca County lake will feel my wrath?

got word that my lake in aitkin co. froze over last night. with cold temps forcast for much of next week, ice fishing will get a jump start this year.

So Duff, where in Itasca county? Lakes around the cabin in Itasca county, the 4 I looked at where all locked up. Just north of Bowstring

Right there by Riley's.  Hopefully they stay locked up and the wind and temps behave.

I would bet that there will be people out on smaller lakes in the Detroit Lakes area this weekend.

I heard a report today of guys pounding slab crappies through the ice near DL. This shallow pond is reported to have 4" of ice.

I have never been over there, which is a little surprising having been going to Jessie for 30 years.  I'll send up a Smurf blue smoke signal next time.

I was down in the Twin Cities yesterday and saw two guys ice fishing on Lake Owasso off of Victoria and north of county road D. They were out in front of the  New Perspective Senior Living building.

From the lack of boats I see on the lake and at the access, you are not alone. I don't expect much out there these days, it's a good attitude to have.

I'm hoping for some perch, pike, and a tulibee or two next week.
