Does Anyone Know What This Is?

Is this some type of crane? We moved to this property just a few years ago and are right next to the river and a wetland so I've seen many birds I've never seen before.

yepper,  tons of them here in this area.

there was even some in our marsh yesterday.  They make the worst noise of all birds.

They are also very tasty critters, provided you can find one in a legal harvest zone.

there is a special zone and season up in the far northwest corner of the state.  

Had two almost land on top of me in a layout blind in a cornfield outside the metro a couple years ago.  

Friend of mine's dad brought home a couple from Saskatchewan

The other evening the Mrs asked what the heck I was looking up in the sky at?

"Pterodactyls" I said.

I could hear them, but couldn't locate them.

they sound like Valesoraptors.  Those are those little dinosaurs that ate Newman from Seinfeld in Jurassic Park.  My lab makes that noise when she gets excited too.  I hate it because it scares me.

We had a camper near Crex Meadows up by Grantsburg, WI.  Thousands of Sandhills there.  My sister was with one weekend and got up early one morning for a smoke.  These things were making so much noise, and she had NO idea what the were, that she would not open the door.  She was afraid something would attack and eat her if she went outside.  We still get a chuckle over that.

They are certainly on the move right now, see or hear some passing by most everyday.
