Good Morning!

Recommended Posts

Good morning! Chores done, lambs loaded for the locker plant. Rough night. Lamb born, not right, Mrs. Cheviot brought it in the house about 3 a.m. and it bellered until morning. 3 hours sleep and I need coffee. And kind of a PITA day ahead because there are a lot of nitpicky things to do including payroll and bill paying but mostly, it's Monday. I'm getting too old for this garbage. Luckily there are leftover brats from the weekend grilling and plenty of other things to keep us going. There will be fresh lamb too. Looking forward to the burger in particular. :)

Good morning! The mighty Shmoo! Haven't seen him and Lil' Abner since I was a pupster. Always did figure that I took after Jed Btfsplk, though, sometimes... joealb.gif That reminds me, did you know Al Capp was the one that "invented" Sadie Hawkin's day? I think LL mentioned something about that on here not too long ago...althought it's celebrated November 15th. Cold, cloudy, windy......Don't know if it's theRA with the weather helping it, but I sure am an all-over hurtin' unit lately. Makes the rest of ya feel lousy, too.Doc's say it also bad Fibromyalgia, which I don't think I really believe in. Some days ya just hurt for whatever reason, everybody does. Don't need a fancy-schmancy name for everything. Start  my yearly physical tomorrow, so they can find more major things wrong, and suggest more spendy drugs I can't afford. The minute I hit 50, things went to hell in a handbasket; like they were lined up and just waiting to pounce. I hate doing this. Worst thing is the stupid blood tests in the am....and no coffee. instead of having them right away early, they have them for 9:30. I'm going in at 8:00 am and they can take it then or not at all. I need to eat before that and have my coffee! Bit of tidying up around here today; I've got the new 'puter 90% dialed in...just need to watch some of the tutorials. They've changed a lot of things, plugged in my camera, and to download pics is really different...did not "Name" my camera (hereafter called a device) as did the old Dell. Will haveta figger out the importation tricks on that one. Couldn't get Cortana to talk dirty to me. I hate watching tutorials. I learn far faster by just doing it., after a short couple of "how to's". But, I'm good with that kind of stuff. I rememeber some of those (SAT?) tests in high school, one was mechanical aptitude, where I scored on the 97%percentile. They called me in later and basically accused me of cheating, had to take it again. SCored a 98% that time. Said no one had ever scored that high. That stuff is easy for me. I remember building things when I was 6 years old that amazed my Dad. That, reading and english were my high points. However, math and geography were another story. "See Dick run, run Dick run. Dick has four apples, Sally wants one , as does Spot and Jane. Puff doesn't care. If Dick shares, how many apples will he have left?"  Four. Get yer grimy mitts offa my apples and go get yer own. " Where was the Inca empire located?" Downtown Detroit? "Lewis and Clark discovered what trail?"  Route 66?!   See what I mean? Have a good day, guys...;)

Reb - that looked like an OTC post.  Isn't there a return button on the new rig to compose paragraph breaks?

My baby boy 17 year old was eliminated in the Championship game to go to the State Tourney.  I've seen him cry twice in the past 5 years, once when Grandpa died and yesterday.  Couldn't help but feel bad for him but by the end of last night he had moved on it seemed.

State hockey tourney starts Thursday and Wayzata is in it.  They play some Burnsville team.  I think once called the Braves but Boober probably got a petition going and they changed their name to the Blaze.  Wayzata is the Trojans and so far that has offended no one.

Dotch- more lamb deaths?  First the baby, then the ram vs the chevy and now off to slaughter.  I'm guessing after your lack of sleep you aren't real sympathetic to sheep deaths now.

Wayzata is named after a Condom?  That should have riled up the political activists of one or another flavor.

assuming the activists are lefty's they'd think a High School with any condom affiliation would be good so I'm guessing it stays.

Hey a condom team.  That is great!  Handy if the ice starts melting.  Keeps you dry.  Well it is cold as heck here. -6 here this morning.  What a cold slap back to reality.  It was 40 on the weekend.  We also got 4" of snow.  Just got done cleaning that up. Man am I looking forward to spring.  I want to go for a boat ride.   Hey LL, we were all pretty worried about you not being around yesterday.  We had all sorts of scenarios.  The wife and a frying pan was mentioned.  Her sitting on a lawn chair while you finish cleaning the garage was mentioned.  There was a few more too.  So you see we care......

Good morning?! HA!! Not yet!  About 2 1/2" of that $#!@$!  snow, and still roaring down...and it was close to all gone. Said little accumulation...??!!??!  Plus, here I sit starving and need food and coffee, and have to have fasting blood tests first...scheduled for 9:30. Had nothing since 6:00 PM last nite. Screw that, I'm gonna be there when they open at 7:30, and they can take it or not. A diabetic, and I need to eat shortly after I get up, (they know that, right on appt) and they schedule fasting tests for 9:30...leave it to Mayo. They've gotten so big they can't do anything without screwing it up lately. Almost 16 hours with no food or drink?! Does anyone THINK before they make these tests?! Oh ya, Happy March 1st!!! Not coming in like a lamb here.....Dotch. Have a haircut to get and running around downtown, I imagine it's gonna be all slip and slide and watch out for the idjits that can't drive. Today of all days, it had to snow......Have a good one guys. I'm gonna get ready to head out.

Yes, although it does add credence to the term "blue balls" there boar! Happy Birthday to your Mom BTW. Really wish I had one of those lamps Reb. I am envious. It would blend right in with the rest of the decor in the house. Been one of those mornings where I've been playing catch-up as opposed to ketchup. I like ketchup. I don't like catch-up. For you smurfy: :)

Also been writing like mad trying to finish an article for a deadline. At least the office pest was a no-show. Need to proof some stuff for an article I helped with in a major farm publication after a bit. The guy who wrote it is an old friend and drinking buddy from when we'd attend some of the major ag summits back in the 90's. We're about due for another of those soon.

Starting to lose count out in the lambing barn right now. Last I recall it's about 14 - 2. About 1/3 done heading towards half. Need the ear tags to show up soon so we can move some of them down to the loafing area. Sounds kinda fun doesn't it, a 'loafing area'? No beer or TV down there though. A little surprise snowfall overnight. Was only a 40% chance when I went to bed. We must've got the 60%. All white again this a.m. Was about 1.5" and the temps were back down in the mid-teens. Frost was out on the south facing slope down from the house last night. Won't take long once it warms up. A few guys fishing yet this a.m. on St. Olaf in their portables though.

Off to check on the lambing barn over noon hour. Later! :)

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
